Are you insinuating that they are biased towards Iowa? Or that Iowa doesnt deserve the number 1 ranking? If so, please elaborate and not hide behind your one sentence Pot shot.

I agree that WIN has a slight slant towards Iowa and that AWN has one towards Oklahoma schools, however I think Iowa deserves this distinction. I can't really put my finger on it but it seems like WIN usually is quick to believe some of the hype generated by overzealous Iowa fans.

I am a tennis geek. I grew up watching Connors, McEnroe, Becker, Lendl, Navratolova....Cincinnati, actually Mason but they say Cincy, has a big tournament every year and my mom's work gets tickets. She gets a set of the day tickets all week long and gives them to my dad and me. I watched Serena and Sharapova both play from the front row. But the real fun is to walk around and watch the pros on the practice courts. Andy Murray's serve in scary when you are standing right there. It's like a cannon.

I don't understand how they include Burak in Iowa's ranking and not include McCauley in Iowa State's ranking! Both at OTC.

    Q,
I made the quarters in a few satellite tournaments right out of college .Indy used to host the clay courts and it was super expensive and terribly boring . The clay was really soft and points turned out to be battles of attrition more than quality tennis .Had Lendl been born at any other time in history he'd have been a legend .
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.

    Quinn & Russ,

I'd enjoy talking more tennis (even though wrestling is my favorite sport), but I'm afraid I'd be hijacking this thread (even though someone else introduced the tennis terminology!). I would be interested where Russ played tennis. I played at PSU back in the era of Connors, Roscoe Tanner, and Gerulaitis (they were a good bit better than me, needless to say). There. . .I just continued the hijack!

I consider him a legend. The thing I think that hurt him in some people's eyes was that he wasn't as outspoken as a Conners or McEnroe. Those two could really get a crowd into a match and Lendl just plodded around and quietly beat the hell out of people.

OK, I'll keep going until someone stops us. I don't think there was a more powerful player than Lendl unless possibly Marat Safin from Russia. Lendl would sometimes seem to lose focus mentally in a tight match. But he was one great player. He didn't have the charisma of some others (and I'm not speaking of Connors--he was a great player but I didn't think much of him as a person).
