I agree-Vinson was about as much a threat that facility as a hummingbird . I was kidding about gitmo-i hope he sues the shot out of the airport and wins the ncaa's as a millionaire . Some hi tech nerd with a homemade EMP is a 1,000 x more dangerous .
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.

I knew you were kidding, the others didn't sound that way though. They might as well outlaw fun, honest mistakes and stupidity because this clearly falls under one of those. An arrest was not needed. Now, a soon-to-be college grad and good kid has a menacing charge to explain at every future job interview. Welcome to the new America, walk the line or get out!

EDIT- Sorry for the rant. I wasn't calling anyone out. I just got done reading about 4 HS kids sent to jail for starting a food fight at school. I get mad when people aren't allowed to have fun as long as no one is hurt. This one reminded me of that.

I'm only 6 years removed from highschool and they might as well be prisons anymore. The amount of backwards thinking that goes on is comical.

I live just a few miles from where the "crime" occurred. I don't know Vinson personally but I sure hope this is just a case of people overreacting. Even if that is the case, Vinson should know better than to take anything remotely resembling a weapon into an airport. In this day and age, people are so nervous about such things that its just not worth it.

This statement pretty much sums up my thoughts. It used to be that the people in charge (police, security, teachers...) were the calm ones who told everyone else to calm down. They subdued the situation and prevented panic. Now, it's the opposite. They seem to be the first ones to panic and over-blow a situation. I just think it's a shame that a kid like this just had the best weekend of his life ruined because someone with a badge felt like causing a scene. Common sense should have made that security officer just tell him to put it away.

Exactly. He's an idiot for bringing a toy gun to an airport and the cops are dumb for overreacting. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but even I know not to bring something like that to the airport these days. People are overly sensitive (right or wrong) since 9/11. Just avoid the situation.

Whether the airport security over-reacts or not, it's simply a fact. I fly a lot and it is not wise to joke or do anything that could possibly arouse suspicion. I know of a case where a man joked about being a terrorist at customs and he was arrested. Wisdom would say that it's better not to do certain things in certain places.

He was playing with fire and being a smart ass just bringing something like that into an airport. I doubt he gets much punishment though. Nor does he deserve much.

I understand what you all are saying, but I completely disagree. Common sense should still hold a spot in society. Once every one agrees to just follow stupid rules because "it's just not worth it", then we become the exact slaves they want us to be. Something like this would have been handled with a simple talking to, 20yrs ago. That's all it deserved. Now, he has a menacing charge. Yes, it's a misdemeanor, but yes he will have to check the box that asks if he's ever been convicted of a crime, if he is convicted. That is a flat-out shame. But, the masses of society just "ho-hum" through the world and never question the very people who are supposed to be SERVING US!!

One of these days, a silly charge like this will affect each one of you if you don't stop it now. Common mistakes or out-right stupidity should not end in criminal charges. They should be handled with common sense.
