I agree, in fact when I was telling one of my co-workers about Dake (he'd read about it in his SI) I said that the weird thing is that he's continued to grow in college. Now if he's done growing and decided to add bulk to his frame and bump up again, that may be different. Still being a 3x champ W/O taking a rs year is amazing.

Agree. Does anyone know the last true freshman to win an NCAA title before Dake? It's interesting, that he was only #4 in his weight class coming out of HS. And his first year in college he wins NCAA's!

Earlier today I was looking at the list of NCAA champs from 2009 (the year before Dake won his first one) and all the NCAA champs that year were Jrs and Srs. These past 3 years have had a LOT of FR & SO champs--Freshmen: McD, Dake, Stieber
Sophomores: Oliver, Howe, Dake, Wright, Taylor, Ruth

Wasn't Dustin Schlatter a true freshman?

"If I were on staff at the NWCA I would be talking to both wrestlers and schools and trying to see what could be done to make this happen. Even if it meant finding a neutral weight like 161. They could even have it not be part of the normal dual, much like their matches that feature local athletes"

This reminds me so much of the Taylor-Grajales discussions when they finished high school. Amazing.

I have a feeling Taylor moves up to 174 and gets away from the buzz-saw weight class that will be 165 with Dake, Howe, and Caldwell.

Ruth and Wright would both move up too obviously.

The only way Dake/Taylor could meet would be at the Scuffle. Given that DT would have to certify, then go through the weight loss protocol, it likely won't happen at 157. It's also selfish from a team perspective. Also don't see Dake moving up for a team tournament. DT staying put at 165 and Dake moving up a weight class for the entire year is the only way this'll happen, IMO.

Hey vais, the PSU announcer is Jeff Byers. Really good guy, and a better wrestling play-by-play man. He goes by the nickname ironhead.

    I have no doubt.
