The NCAA did not go out of their way for the Owens/Gable match-so why start now ? If Dake wants 4 championships in 4 weight classes he'' either goes 165/174 or cuts to 133-if he somehow stays at 157 then DT best start making the pull now . But as JensenS points out -Y ? DT at 157 tears up the dynamic of PSU's line up . If DT stays at 165 and Dake stays at 157 Dake will go down as a 4x champion -NOT a 4 different weight champion . 5:1 Dake moves up and tries to become the only one making this a moot point.

I don't think that NCAA should do anything to make this happen. I do think that this would be right up the NWCA's alley though. It'd be a great addition to the All Star match.

There is no way Taylor will drop to 157 just to challenge Dake. A stupid selfish move like this could jeopardize PSU's quest at three straight national titles. I don't see it happening and think this conversation should pretty much be dead. The only conversation should revolve around Dake moving up.

Dake has already done something phenomenal being a 3x NCAA champ in 3 weight classes. He will have to decide if he will take his 4th title at 157, or do something that nobody has done before. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at 165 next year though.

    Imma put this out there.

This is in no way to belittle Dake's accomplishment so hear me out.

I think the 3 titles in 3 years(no redshirt) is a much bigger deal than the 3 different weights. Actually the 3 different weight things doesn't impress me at all. Dake has been one of the bigger guys at the weight hes been in, each year. He's wrestled at his ideal weight every season. It's not like he was just going up weights for the challenge. He was legitimately growing and legitimately that size. It's more about his body being a little bit different from other people's as he has continued to grow lots in college while most students are typically done growing by and large. What is so unique about wrestling in a weight class where you are one of the biggest guys every time? So in summary, his three titles in three weights speaks more to him being unique in growth patterns than anything else.

If that doesn't impress you at all, then you are a tough guy to impress.

Aren't we supposed to assume that every wrestler he's wrestled is also at their ideal weight, too? If not, why don't they cut?

That is exactly what makes it unique. The definition of unique doesn't say it's better. It's just different. He kept growing like you said. That makes him unique and also why no one else has done it. Focus on unique instead of better.[/QUOTE]

I gave him his props and said it's extremely impressive, but not because he moved up each year. I was pretty explicit but you seem to still be missing the point.

It makes him unique but it doesn't add to the greatness imo. That was my point. He's wrestled at the right weight every year. He's just happened to have to go up once each year to do so. Not that big of a deal, just more of a statistical anomaly than anything.

I kind of have to agree with this logic. I still think its a pretty cool accomplishment though
