You know when something bad happens to your team and you lose by a point or two, that's one thing but Iowa got their starting line-up back in time for Big Tens and still got their asses handed to them by PSU and finished in or around the pack of have nots including MN and Cornell. What could they possibly bitch about rather than just simply getting their ass kicked. I think we're all fans of our teams but on this forum, to a person, we all pretty much tipped our hat to PSU.

If theirs an Iowa fan out there that thought they had a shot at PSU based on how PSU did, they are in denial. Even if Evans hits his seed, and Lofthouse and Gambrall somehow got on the podium, your still nowhere near the number that was needed. I think MN, Cornell, Okie State and Iowa just ran in to a buzz saw, clear and simple.

I agree that the weight was not particularly strong. going back to the preseason, I thought Molinaro was more likely than Ruth to go undefeated because of the weight class, not necessarily because I thought Molinaro was better. I think Ruth overall is better, though Frank's senior year I think he became really good.

Getting back to the point, I think there are other indicators (some like you mentioned) for the strength of a weight class that are better than early round upsets.

Either way, I first found Molinaro impressive as a sophomore (and I took a verbal beating for my defense of his apparent "gassing" during the Minnesota dual from last year).

Tough or weak weight class, Molinaro is the real deal. With THAT said, I think he deserves a future on the hit show, "Jersey Boys" though.

Actually he lost to Vinson in a dual. He lost to Levalley in EiWA final.

Crap... I was fairly confident in my answer but was going to confirm it out anyways but did not bother.
