Thread: First Round Loss To AA

Default First Round Loss To AA

On the mat.com forums someone had posted a thread congratulating Donnie Vinson for losing his first round match, only to wrestle all the way through the consolation bracket to earn AA status.

The funny thing is is that a TON of people did that this year, not just one person. In fact, I would bet anything that we've never seen so many do that in one year than did this year!

    149: Tessari, Vinson
    157: Peppelman
    165: Jordan, Yates, Blevins, Polz
    285: Gwiazdowki

So half the AA at 165 lost the 1st round? The other four AAs would the semifinalists who both lost their their first wrestleback.

    Yes, that is correct.

    It's really incredible.

Big ups for Vinson though for wrestling all the way back to take 3rd. That's 7 straight wins. They should have an ironman award for anyone who can accomplish that feat.

As a Buckeye fan, it was cool to see true freshman Tessari win 6 straight and make it all the way back to the 3rd/4th match.

That is a beastly way to do it! Winning 6 straight matches anywhere is hard, but at nationals, really hard. I'm especially proud of Ben Jordan who had a miserable second half of the season, lost to Onufer and then came back to avenge a pin by Evans, beat Sorenson, etc. That takes a lot of intestinal fortitude!
