Rumor has it that Tom Brands stood right behind Eggem and J during Sanders 3rd place match cheering on Sanders and he went up to J afterwards and patted him on the back. If true, proof that you can be rivals and still respect each other.

Sounds like good sportmanship by Brands. Of course, it's possible he was worried about Cornell catching them and was glad to see Perrelli lose!
I don't find that too hard to believe. There is respect there. The fact that Ryan was in the green room practically using Ramos like a Jerry Tarkanian mouth towel during Oliver/Stieber final let's you know it's a pretty tight fraternity. Remember alot of these guys get recruited by multiple schools and have faced each other for years.

Both Zalesky and Brands were Asst coaches to Gable. From what I understand, when Gable left he debated between the 2 to replace him, and finally recommended that Zalesky be the one. Maybe an Iowa fan can correct me, but that's my understanding.
