Thread: David Taylor vs Kyle Dake next year?

    What does Dake even weigh? I would love to see him up there and to challenge Taylor, or if Taylor moves up a Dake V Howe match would be phenominal, just think of the heavy hands those two have. My guess however is that he does not go up.

    DSJ appeared taller than him as does Taylor. I went off of that. Was he taller than Molinaro? Yes, but so is my 8 year old. It was my opinion. If you asked me is Dake tall for his weight class I guess I wouldn't say "yes".

    Here he is standing next to Quentin Wright last year, Wright has him by about an inch maybe.

    There are a multitude of reasons why I'd pick Taylor over Dake should Dake move up next year, but Dake not being tall enough is not one of them.

    God damn QW is SHORT! Just kidding.

    Well, there you go. I still think Taylor beats him. I think at 165 he is playing right in to Taylor's hands. Would I respect him? Absolutely.

    I think if Dake & Taylor go to the Olympic trials we will see that showdown sooner than anyone thinks. Last year we did see Howe vs Dake & Howe won & it didn't seem that tough on Howe. And yes I think that Taylor could take Howe.

    That's a bit unfair to Dake though:

    * It's freestyle where Dake's best trait (top wrestling) isn't a factor
    * Howe was 2 weight classes bigger something like a month before that.
    * It went to 3 periods, so it had to be tough

    Not saying Dake would beat him by any stretch but I'm not putting much stock in that freestyle win.

    All that said, my money is on Taylor if all 3 are in the same weight. I think Taylor does everything Dake does a little better. Dake rides more, but Taylor gets more points on top and cuts people if nothing is there. I think Howe & Taylor is the more intriguing matchup, taking nothing away from Dake of course. I hope it happens...

    I don't know Howe that well. But I think both Dake and Taylor are very confident, competitive guys that would thrive on "going against the best". On a lesser scale last year as HS'ers, Gulibon moved up a weight just to wrestle Megaludis in a county tournament. Megaludis won in a close bout, but I like that competitive spirit (that Gulibon showed in moving up a weight to wrestle Megaludis). For the fans' sake, I hope Dake moves up. I think Dake's competitive spirit would do it.

    When Howe won vs Vallimont a few years ago he seemed like the immovable object but JB took that apart. It will be interesting to see what happens next year.

    I think Dake moving up is a ballsy move if he were to do it. And the pressure would be on Taylor in my opinion. I think him moving up would get inside Taylors head maybe... I'm not putting a whole lot into the fact that he looked a little gassed in the semi's and finals. The last 2 tournaments he won he didn't. It could just be he was a little past his peak physically. And lets face it Taylor didn't have the toughest opponent in the finals. It's not his fault but... I would've given the outstanding wrestler trophy to Ruth. They're all outstanding wrestlers!

    Well it's possible he could move up early, maybe get a tournament match or dual against him to try his luck and then if he holds his own he can stay. If not, he can go back down.
