Thread: Meanest looking wrestlers

That brings up another interesting thread idea about the most docile looking tough wrestlers. When I was wrestling there were two brothers from Canby that looked like the biggest dorks around. Both work baggy shorts and sweatshirts tucked into their shorts. They hiked their shorts up well above their waste, but man could they wrestle. David the older of the two set just about every record that Oregon had for wins, I believe he won 3 state titles, though it may have just been two. His younger brother Brian came along and broke all those records again. Brian lost one match in his entire HS career, and that was in the state semis his freshman year. In between them was Kenny Cox who also broke all of David's records and then was eclipsed the next year by Brian.

All three (David Watson, Kenny Cox, and Brian Watson) went on to wrestle the university of oregon.

Taylor=looks like Clark Kent=wrestles like Super Man.

I mean admit it, have you ever seen David Taylor, Clark Kent and Super Man at the same time and place?

I was going to mention Taylor too (an obvious choice). Taylor reminds me in this way kind of like a former PSU wrestler, Jimmy Martin. He had such a baby face, and not an imposing build at all. But boy, was he tough (4-time AA, and 1-time NCAA champ)! One other even older former PSU wrestler that my fit the category was Andy Matter. He did not look strong at all, very slender build. But boy could he pull off throws. He also had kind of a baby face. Should have been a 3-time NCAA champ (out of 3 years, as freshmen weren't eligible back then).

Nope, I got close enough to Mocco the Big 10s when he was at Iowa awaiting the finals for my blood to run cold. He was a mean looking Dude. Didn't look at all natural to me when I finally saw a photo of him smiling.

My wife, for some reason unknown to me, thinks that wrestlers as a group are ugly, tough looking SOBs. She harps about the ears(mine are cute), the noses(mines pretty good), the impetigo(ok she has me there) and the scars(guilty, guilty, mea culpa guilty). I point out Kellen Russell to her as an example that a top notch wrestler doesn't have to be a mean-looking battered SOB(he did look a little rough after the Big 10s). He could be a model in a men's magizine. Jason Ness couldn't scare a Brownie with his looks, or demeanor off the mat. On the other hand, Sonny Yohn looks like he would enjoy ripping your arms off and make you eat them.

Sonny Yohn could only rip your arms off and make you eat them if you were a five year old little girl.

...and will never forget the time at Minny when one of his wrestlers was obviously taking a 'lung timeout', when he literally pushed the kid back out on the mat and told him to wrestler. Wonder if the kid had to walk back to Bloomington?
