Default Minnesota Gophers Starting Heavyweight for 2015

Great story by Steve Elwood. I was impressed with his research and the time he put in to this story. They all sound like good kids and potential D1 wrestlers. Kroells is going to be every bit as good as Nelson I believe.

If they want to sit for a year when Nelson is a senior, why not?

Well let me do the math Steven Hawking. Kroells is a senior, Nelson is a sophomore. Kroells comes in and redshirts, Nelson is a junior. Kroells is a freshmen and J. Robinson promises Kroells the best guy will start like he did with Nelson when he had Berhow. Kroells gets a chance to wrestle Nelson in the wrestling room for a year, Kroells as a freshman has a shot at winning a National Title as freshman, be in the team title hunt and stay in MN where they have a rich tradition of heavyweight wrestlers? Sounds good to me. I guess I meant only Kroells. The other isn't going to U of MN and the other is only a sophomore.

Looks like you've already found a good replacement for Nelson in future years! Sounds like a good kid too.

I'm running under the assumption that Nelson is going to be a little more firmly entrenched than Berhow was as a senior. J Rob can promise all he wants but I don't see a high school kid this year beating out a senior year Tony Nelson given how Nelson has spent the last two years wrestling.

Berhow for all the success he had wasn't even expected to be the guy at heavyweight when he came off redshirt. Nelson is already an All American and is the #2 seed at Nationals this coming weekend.

I guess I see it as a cant lose really for him. If he can't beat Nelson he can learn from him.

    Another MN heavyweight prodigy.

It's funny how we can churn out solid heavyweight D1 athletes year after year but can't find five guys to block for a college running back or protect a college quarterback?
