Default Jimmy Lawson Transferring to Penn State

A three-time state champion, Jimmy Lawson to leave Monmouth football program to wrestle at Penn State | NJ.com

3x NJ Champ at heavyweight has been playing football the last couple of years, now he's planning on heading to Penn State to wrestle.

While the last guy they had transfer in after time away from the sport (and I'm not talking about Andrew Long, another Jersey guy) didn't work out you've got to admit that this should certainly be interesting to see how it works out.

Jimmy and Campolottano were going through this choice around the same time - Jimmy to Monmouth and Andrew to Rutgers to play football. I always felt it was a mistake for both. Andrew changed his mind and now Jimmy has too. Jimmy is a beast. Hopefully working this spring and summer on wrestling will help him get caught up. If so, PSU looks a lot stronger at 285 for next year.

ETA - should have read the article first. It's in there. Also, it shows how dominant Jimmy was his senior year.

Keep handing out those "full scholarships". Eventually the talent will thin out.

Heavyweight matches should only count for half the points since no one watches them anyway.

    Q,
Keep your eye on Chalfant from IU. Fullback at Western Kentucky , 3rd at Harper college JUCO and has wins over Lane (2x).Thomuseitt and a few other top hwts as a freshman . 6'4''' 240 and very little fat . Beat Lane 11-7 at B1G's and Tucker is hard to score 11 points on.

    Chalfant is a scary dude.

Lawson has been off the mat for two years. We'll see. Lots of upside, but not even close to a guarantee.

Gingrich is a decent heavy, but I know he doesn't scare anyone. It'll be nice to have some more competition in the room!

I'm assuming he will enroll as a Junior?

Seems to be the case. Two years at DT in (minor) D1 football is nothing to scoff at. The two sports, especially at interior line positions, are very cross-trainable. Kid could be fierce with a little brushing off of rust.
