If you haven't noticed, the NCAA.com home page for DI wrestling has a poll at the bottom right.
    It asks:
Which Big Ten team is best equipped to win the national title?
    Illinois
    Iowa
    Minnesota
    Ohio State

Now, I think most people didn't think Hall had earned that seed last year, and when he didn't come close to matching his seed, maybe they decided to change things up and go with who they really thought had the best body of work for THAT season.

Again, it makes little to no sense, but having the 1 seed is almost an invitation to the finals at 174. Especially for Ed Ruth.

With Fleming, the 6 seed doesn't really bother me. DSJ and Welch deserve to be seeded higher when you compare bodies of work, and he lost to Sanjaa who was pinned by Peppelman. I guess he could have been higher, but 6 seems about right.
You missed the part where I have Pearsall beating Russell & McIntosh pinning Simaz....

So wild card selections cannot be seeded? If so that at least makes sense, but is still silly. What if that was Dake instead of Mason who had to default out, would they not have seeded him?

That is correct. With the new seeding process. I know with Dustin Schlatter he got a wild card I do believe.

I think Dustin Schlatter was seeded his final year. I remember he got into the tournament as a wild card.

Dustin Schlater was the 6th seed after receiving an at-large bid in 2010.

Proof that the NCAA doesn't really care or pay attention to wrestling, either that or a direct FU to fans of PSU. I'm betting on the former.

So did they change the rule after DS got seeded when he clearly wasn't healthy and skirted in via wild card?

Possibly. He really didn't have many matches prior to that either.
