well not to nit-pick but I think that if the argument is why did QW get the OW last year the same criteria might help an argument FOR DSJ.

I have to agree with the similarities in QW's and DSJ's cases. Both were highly ranked pre-season. Both got injured and didn't do so well after returning from injury (especially QW). Both won titles in upsets, by close matches (all 3 of QW's matches were close, or reasonably so). But if you're looking for the surprising winner--it's hard to top Gonzalez!
