Co-Wrestler of the Championships: Kellen Russell, Michigan; Frank Molinaro, Penn State
2012 ALL-BIG TEN TEAM
Mario Gonzalez, Illinois
Matt McDonough, Iowa

Kellen Russell, Michigan

Kevin Steinhaus, Minnesota
Logan Stieber, Ohio State
Frank Molinaro, Penn State
Ed Ruth, Penn State
David Taylor, Penn State
If this was a true OW award how don't you give it to DSJ? What he did on Sat and Sun was truely OUTSTANDING. I bet nobody on this entire board would have bet money on DSJ to win the Big 10's. Just goes to show this award is bogus most of the time.
I agree. I'll venture to say that no one even thought of Gonzalez as a title possibilty. DSJ was the pre-season favorite apart from the injury. So, the big question is how far has DSJ come back from injury. If it's most of the way, then it's not really an upset. If he won it with a broken leg (just saying) then that would be pretty impressive.

Because the award is for who was wrestling the best, not for who was the biggest surprise or who was the nicest story. St. John didn't get it for the same reason that Mr. Mental Weakness didn't get it last year. Its not what the award is for.
St. John beat two freshmen in OT matches and then beat Welch with a last second TD. Russell won his 4th Big 10 title in more convincing fashion than St. John did and Molinaro went pin, tech, tech and was unscored on.

What?
Penn State Wins 2011 Big Ten Wrestling Championships - BIG TEN CONFERENCE Official Athletic Site
Penn State swept the Big Ten individual awards, as 157-pounder David Taylor earned conference Wrestler and Freshman of the Year accolades, 184-pounder Quentin Wright was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Championships and head coach Cael Sanderson picked up Coach of the Year honors.
Some reason I was mistaken, thought for whatever reason Taylor got a clean sweep of things last year.
I don't think that detracts from my point though.
