Thread: The Derek St. John Seeding Question (Long Read)

I would say #2 or #3. I think when they seed the tourney they will take into account his injury vs where he just finished in the Big 10's. I can see them giving Flemming the #2 seed but could also see them give DSJ the #2 seed based on quality W's. He just beat the #2 kid in the country along with #5 & #8 in the same tourney. I doesn't really matter if he is #2 or #3 but I feel he gets the #2 seed after his big performance this weekend. He obviously looks much better now than a month ago. I agree he may not be 100% yet but he has another 2 weeks to heal and he just won the hardest 157 Conference Tourney in the country.

I find it interesting that Pena started the season with 7 consecutive pins and then later had a streak of 10 pins in 12 matches, including Demas & Jones as victims.

I'd give him a #2 or a #3. I think as long as he doesn't end up in Dake's half of the bracket, I'd favor him regardless of seed.

Didnt realize peppelman lost to kolodzik, lister and Hepburn. Hes got a case to be ahead of peppelman. Fleming lost to hickman and sanjaa. I sure hope he lands the 2 or 3.

I would give him the 2 or 3. He only has one more loss than Welch and JUST beat him head to head. I would honestly give him the 2 but I wouldn't be upset about the 3.

St. John lost to Demas and Pena and prior to the Big 10's he was ranked 10th last I saw. His win over Welch was far from dominating. I have a hard time believing knowing how brutal these seeding meetings are that he's going to jump more than 4 or 5 spots because of one tournament. Other than this past weekend he hasn't beaten anyone in the top 10. It will be interesting to see. DC

His victory wasn't dominating but I thought he simply looked better than Welch. Welch got a first period takedown and didn't do much of anything the rest of the match. I think St. John would beat him in a rematch if they meet again

I think he gets the #3 seed. He has the same number of losses as Fleming, but Fleming has wrestled all season and Fleming's losses are to tougher guys. You could make a case for Welch with only 1 loss being seeded ahead of him. But with the head-to-head win you've got to put DSJ ahead of him.

I think DSJ (if healthy) is clearly #2, but he hasn't yet shown he's fully healthy. Maybe he is. He had some very solid wins this past weekend, but I think the DSJ we expected this year would have won those bouts by more than he did.

Also, A health St. John probably doesn't have 2 loses either
