At what point does it help to bump up your back up 57 to wrestle a good 74, and then bump up your good 74 to wrestle a pretty good 84(and lose) They weren't winning the dual, so wrestle the matches. The only explanation is that they simply didn't want the match to happen.

This is the lineup that beat Iowa. Heflin only lost by 1 correct? Not a bad move all together. That is why Ryan gets paid the big bucks and not you and I.

In Ohio State's defense, the strategy made sense in the terms of winning this dual. Grandominico (sp?) held Lofthouse to a DEC and Heflin beat Wagner who beat McNeil. That said, I think Ryan did his wrestler a disservice. He woulc have been well served to get a look at Perry before NCAA's. If he runs into Perry there, he will now be less prepared for Perry's unique style.

So at best it was a 50/50 proposition theyd benefit teamwise from the move. Additionally as you point put they wont have had a look at perry and valuable mat time against a good wrestler they could see at ncaas. Just cant see how this helps Tosu in any way.

No, it did help the team score.

Let's say Heflin had went 174: Perry dec. Heflin, McNeil collects a forfeit. Okie St 9, Ohio St 0.

Since Heflin went 184: Perry maj Grandominico, McNeil dec Heflin. Okie St 7, Ohio St 0.


Plus they probably assumed Heflin would beat McNeil, in which case the score would have been: Okie St 4, Ohio St 3.



Nonetheless, I don't like that Ryan does this either. Let them wrestle the guys in their weight class.

It created two completely meaningless matches.

Grandomonico v. anyone is meaningless, and Heflin up a weight is meaningless. We could have had at least one meaningful match.
