He's not the be all and end of all of wrestling just yet.
Ok, well this thread was about 149 pounds at the NCAA tournament, where they will wrestle folkstyle. Any comments about guys who are out of college wrestling freestyle is irrelevant to what this particular thread is about and is just an attempt to minimize Metcalfs accomplishments. It's not like anyone said He would win the U.S. Open, make the world team, etc.

Very well said. You can't take anything away from Bret's accomplishments. I haven't seen, in my day, a more dominate wrestler at his given weight class.

Actually, I think it was Metcalf himself that said he was planning on doing those things after NCAA's. But, you're right. Those guys don't count for now. I personally don't see Metcalf having a match closer than 4 points from here on out, unless Schlatter comes back healthy and in the same weight class next year. A 100% Palmer was a singlet grab by Metcalf away from a win last year, but Metcalf has improved an amazing amount again this year. Something you just don't see from guys at that level.

I know I've put some diggs in on the Metcalf groupies, but I too enjoy watching him wrestle. Even when he's not able to score in bunches, he's still looking to score for the entire 7 minutes, which is fun to watch.

So does EVERY NCAA wrestler who has international aspirations. They all say it, and they all fall short for the most part. This list includes Askren and Herbert, and I didn't see you call them out on it.

Christ! Why so defensive all of the time?

I didn't call anyone out on anything. I was simply reminding you that he himself talked about making the world team this summer. At no point did I say anything negative about his aspirations. Lighten up!

Spare me the singlet grap crap. You seem to forget all the self manufactured breaks Palmer took and the fact it was not sudden death, Metcalf had what would have been an escape about as fast as the almost TD and the match would have been tied.

hahaha, I knew that would get a good response. I just expected it to come from Vak, Vais, or Chrir33.

You're right, he never got ridden at all by Palmer. I'll give you the exessive lung injury timeouts. I didn't forget anything. I've watched that match a half dozen times. It was a hell of a match.
