Maybe they were trying to split up the conferences?
Minnesota, Cornell, and Ok st. are all worthy #1 seeds. Iowa not so much. However I'm sure the organizers of the event are attempting to bring in as much money as possible and Iowa has the biggest fan base in the country. Financially it behooves them to get the Hawkeyes into the final four any way they can and this type of seeding/draw is the best way to do it.
I agree with splitting up teams. I would hate to have Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota, UNI and 2 couple Big 12 schools in our region. We would have competed against them all at least once, esp the Big 12 schools with home and home duals already and then Big 12's. I like Iowa State's draw, from the standpoint that we haven't wrestled Wisconsin or Oregon State in a dual. It kind of sucks for Oregon State and Virginia Tech from a travel standpoint, but I think there is a good chance the state of Iowa will always host a regional, so I can't complain.
Okay, so does anyone know of any media coverage for these events?
tOSU is the only team that has a decent claim to supplant Iowa as a #1 seed. With the regions set so far in advance though, I think the seeds are what they have to be. tOSU certainly can make no claim to being the #1 seed in their region. If they were in the Iowa region, they probably would be the #1 seed, just a tough break for the Bucks.
