Steinhaus was a 3 time state Champ and if I recall correctly he didn't lose a match his last 3 years in high school.
It kinda floors me he wasn't more heavily recruited because he was a stud in high school. I think part of the reason had to be was that he came from a small school in western Minny????
He actually wrestled his teammate Zach Sanders in State when he was something like an 8th or 9th grader.

His high school recored was 246-12.
3rd highest wins in Minnesota history.

Not sure exactly how he slipped under the radar????????

I'm wondering if, in order to make it big on the HS national ranking scene, you have to wrestle in a lot of larger tournaments and national summer tournaments? If a wrestler mostly wrestles locally except for his state tournament, maybe he stays under the radar. Could that have happened to Steinhaus?

I'd say Burroughs is a pretty good story. Didn't get his lone state title until his senior year in 2006 and came in as the seventh ranked 135 pounder in the country. He certainly developed into much more than people expected

    That is very well possible.

That's a good example. I think I read that Molinaro beat Burroughs in the HS state tournament when both of them were underclassmen (something like Burroughs a junior and Molinaro a sophomore).

Anthony Robles wasn't in the Top 100 recruits his senior year. I am sure Kyle Ruschell wasn't highly regarded himself coming out of Kentucky and all.
