Tom has a much deeper history, but I have been around Penn State since 1998. The "Pitt Rivalry" is dead in every sport.
In football, Pitt fans want to play us much more than we care to play them. I agree up until the mid-80's that game was probably the biggest in most sports.

Oklahoma State is our #1 rival. It's not even close. Minnesota and Iowa State are on the next step down.

Weird. I grew up about 90 miles from the Pitt campus, and I went there from 84 to 87. At that time PSU was their biggest rival, it's too bad that's all changed. I've since moved out of state so I haven't kept up with the rivalry (or lack therof).

As a now "old-timer", I can testify that in football Pitt was the big rival in the 60's and 70's. I went to some of the games when Marino was quarterback at Pitt and there was tremendous intensity to the rivalry. (Not just then but every year). Wrestling rivalry with Pitt was pretty big, but Lehigh and Navy were bigger. Lehigh has regained national prominence, but Navy's program has never gotten back to where they were in the 70's.

Those don't surprise me at all--although it's interesting that Minnesota is now #2 or equal to ISU. A while back ISU would have been clearly ahead of Minnesota. I'm just happy that PSU is the team you hate the most!! There's some status in that!

    Iowa v. Coe College.

Hasn't it been a while since Coe College has won that one?

Coe College has a great wrestling team, but they are more like brothers to Iowa than rivals.
