I didn't see the award being called "Best program re-energizer" or "neatest future olympian"(Who took a year off to place what at the trials?)

Please tell me how Herbert has had a better/more impressive/more dominant year than Metcalf? Just show me one statistic or area where he has been more impressive? Seriously, for every stat that herbert might have an edge over metcalf, Metcalf would have several better than him.
    This is how I relax.

Not even an attempt to back up your claim?

I will give you that metcalfs weight class is weak, no fault of his own. Last year it was the most brutal weight class I have ever seen, and many can verify that. Burroughs(who metcalf beat soundly last year) is now among(if not THE) favorite to win 157.

Didn't they give both awards to Metcalf last year?
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.

One, two, Evans is coming for you...

Is he that great or is his competition weak? He tech's Caldwell and pins Bubba Jenkins. Guess its hard to say because those guys haven't had better success at other weights.

I say give it to Herbert, who cares. Metcalf would have to reinforce his mantle anyway for all the hardware he is going to pick-up. Can't wait for that 4th National Championship...oh wait, he can't get one. Oops.
Ok that last part made me laugh

I don't think the intention of the award is to "share the wealth." That's what happens in High school district wrestling tournaments. Not Big 10 tournaments(you would think)

I already made my claim. It's myopic and silly to not understand that Wrestler of the Year is meant to honor an athlete for more than just the current season. After the career he's had, it would be insane to let Herbert graduate and not be honored. Maybe the Big Ten should have a different award for this sort of thing, but at the moment, they don't, so this is how the coaches have chosen to honor Herbert. Godcalf will get plenty of awards, so there is no need to be stingy.

In the Oscar's they call it the "Lifetime Achievement Award"...plus giving it to Metcalf would be like giving it to a cardboard cutout. Cue the Tiger Woods sound bite...."The golf course looks good, my swing looks good, I like MY chances." (in monotone robotic voice)

I think Metcalf would just melt the award with his STEELY glare.

I am calling my shot now. DS and Metcalf meet up at 157 Finals and DS takes him.

After this year, he'll still have one more National championship than Schlatter will EVER have.

And I don't understand, your reasons for herbert deserving to win is because of his career, which would seem to not be criteria for wrestler of the YEAR.

Maybe there should be a different award, but it's not little league soccer where everyone gets a trophy, it's the highest level of wrestling.

Earlier in the season, i said herbert was the hodge winner thus far, but metcalf has simply been better all around all year, better, not comparable.
