I always took OW to be the guy who was the best pound for pound wrestler.
Therefore it could be possible that some one like Nate Gallick could have won it, even though he never dominated on the scoreboard, he was an outstanding wrestler.

This thread is very interesting. It was dynamite for a couple days, then it pretty much died for a couple days, and now it is back on fire again after nothing has happened to change its status.

I think it's evolved from a "why didn't Metcalf win it" thing into a debate/discussion about what the awards mean and voting tendencies.

I think it's an interesting discussion. Like I mentioned, I see it with the "wrestler of the year" voting that I conduct on the high school level. Also see it at the HS tourneys that I run when it's time to vote on tournament MOW. Some coaches vote for who they believe was the best wrestler competing, regardless of what his competition in that tournament was like. Some prefer to vote for a big "upset" winner. Some vote for the wrestler that won the toughest weight class. I was running a tournament this season and there was one weight class that was just stacked. All the coaches were already saying at weigh-ins that their vote for MOW would be whoever won that weight class.

Ty Lawson got ACC Player of the Year over Tyler Hansbrough. Most likely cause Tyler won it last year and they wanted to spread it around

Roy told me he voted for Jake. *shrug* Must have been a conspiracy from that other coaching block.
