Another poster mentioned a while back that Varner tightens up under pressure. He seems to be getting proved correct. Hopefully Varner gets this dealt wiith before NCAA's.

BTW why couldn't Brester be ranked #1? I know he was for much of the year.

He's 1-2 against Varner this year. Varner beat him 10-3 at National Duals, and 3-2 in their regular dual.

I love it! I sit Bret Jones and start Askren...Jones wins OW with a fall over Tatlor.

Beat 3 tough guys -Drury was 2 seed and Taylor was 1. Went ot withthe 1st guy -he said he was joking with the coach about the only chance he had was to hit a throw and BAM-Headlock in the first 10 seconds !!

Brester made Varner look like Metcalf. Whatever, I still like Varner on a neutral mat.
How did Brester get a takedown?

Varner shot, Brester countered, Varner got out of position, and Brester basically fell on him at the edge of the mat.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

wow, you are strictly looking at through clone glasses there ISU2008. I'm not sure I saw the same match you did. What I saw was 2 excellent wrestlers constantly battling for position. Varner did take the shot in the first but Brester countered him and spun around for the takedown. There was no just falling on him. Brester had to come around and drive through Varner to finish the first take down.

I don't know about you but I've never really considered a slide by much of an offensive attempt or at least the way Varner was selling it. He never really committed to the move and all it did for me was make it look like he was trying something without ever committing to it.

That's Varner's go-to move (whether I like it or not). I'll have to rewatch to see how much he was "selling" it, but he's attempted that move on Brester multiple times at national duals and I'm almost positive he scored on it. I admit it doesn't look like much, but it doesn't take a lot of movement/action to get behind the guy to score. It's not as dramatic a move as a blast double, but it scores 2 points just the same.
