As far as OkSt only going to Reno, I don't get it. You'd think they'd challenge themselves a little more before the big Jan. 7 matchup. The matches in the Minn dual had a lot of stall calls going against OkSt (maybe not enough according to some) -- that doesn't bode well for them in Iowa.

    We'll find out soon enough.
They have an easy schedule virtually every year. I am the least knowledgable of the Oklahoma State fans here so I can't really offer a satisfactory explanation for it other then John's preference.

Plus Maple was there and he's looked great so far. He could conceivably have beaten Boris.

It could be grade eligibility, certainly. And that, along with injury, budgetary constraints, are all understandable.

I'm not sure why OSU doesn't attend a two day tournament during the season. Every other team that figures to win a national title has at least two two day tournaments on their schedule, CKLV, Midlands or Scuffle in addition to their conference tournaments. OSU is at an extra disadvantage with having only a one day conference tournament. I really wish they would attend one. Attending Reno is fine, but it needs to be augmented. It is just bad to have nationals be your first consecutive weigh ins.

It has always seemed to me John puts more stock in Duals then tournaments. Now my memory doesn't go very far back but one is the last time Oklahoma State went to say a Midlands? This issue could very easily play a role in the Cowboy's history of underperforming at nationals

I think the one time Fried beat Brands was at Midlands. That would have been before John was coach though. So I don't think at any time during his tenure as coach.

So ya that means John has something against tournaments

If OSU's lighter scheduling translated into great NCAA showings you could explain it. But it seems that OSU has been underperforming at NCAA's the past few years and I would think you have to look at the potential connection of that with a lighter schedule. Iowa chose not to go to the National Duals last year and in retrospect it looks like it was the right call. But it doesn't seem to be working so well for OSU.

I don't think its the tournaments per se but the timing of the tournaments. I like how these tournaments like RTOC, Midlands and Scuffle are prior to conferences for the most part, then there's conferences (which means about two matches per week) and then there are National Duals now LATER than they used to be as I recall National Duals being earlier a few years back. There are a couple of tournaments sprinkled in here and there now or Lone Star Duals but I think there isn't much of an excuse not to make one of these major tournaments this time of year.

God, that was a very random thought paragraph, sorry.
