Thread: Which weight class most interesting this year?

Default Which weight class most interesting this year?

Which weight class holds the most interest for you this year? Looking at it neutrally (which is hard to do) I would have to say 133. JO is looking like a monster, but he has yet to wrestle Stieber and Ramos. So there is a certain suspense wondering how those match-ups go. I think he'll beat them both, but we have to see it. Wouldn't it have been interesting if Long was still at PSU and in the mix?

184--this is probably the deepest weight class, many of the pairings will be rematches.

165--If Howe hadn't RS'ed a Howe-Taylor match-up would have been my most interesting match. Alas!

Hwt--As a former lightweight I've not usually gotten too excited about Hwts (still not). But the presence of Gelogaev in the mix with some other tough big Hwts makes this weight more interesting than usual.

I think 141 is also going to prove very exciting! The top guys have had great matches against each other, there are at least 5 guys who seem like they could win the weight: Russell, Marion, Novachkov, Mangrum, and Stieber. Kemmerer has also looked good so far, but he hasn't faced any of the top guys. Maple of OU has looked good too, but he hasn't seen the top guys yet either.

I'm a fan of 184 as well. I gotta still give the nod to Quentin Wright based on the way he was able to take his wrestling to a whole other level last year at the time when it counts but this field is deep and talented as well. I wouldnt want to have to bet at this weight.

After watching Boris N. vs Mangrum in the Reno Finals, I vote 141 as being the most interesting and exciting!

141 has like 6 guys who can win it all: Marion, Russell, Novachkov, Maple(he's looked nuts), Mangrum and Stieber. Hunter did what Montell wasn't able to do all last year, and that cannot be ignored.

Probably 141 or 184, both of them are completely up in the air right now in my mind.

I lean towards 184 just because its deeper, 141 has quality guys but I still think the clear top tier is Russell, Boris, and Marion.

I'm a big Oregon State homer so I want to say that Mangrum is in that discussion as well but I think he's in the next (very close tier with Steiber). However I think that he's so stinking athletic that if he puts things together at the right time he can beat anyone else in that weight and win a title in March.

No knock on H. Stieber, but I don't see any way that he wins 141. His win over Russell is impressive, but I don't see him making it past Montell. And I'm not an Iowa fan by any means. Feel free to rub this in my face later on if I turn out wrong.

That being said, I think 141 is one of the more exciting weights - I'd group 141 and 184 together. 133 is probably my top favorite, though. I think 197 will have some epic battles between Simaz and Honeycutt. Could they meet up at the Scuffle, assuming Simaz is back by then? I know Byers recently lost to Rosholt, but if he picks it up like he did last year (beating Kilgore and giving Simaz all he could handle @ the Scuffle), then I think he'll be in it as well.
    Am I cool now?
