Thread: Which weight class most interesting this year?

I would have to agree with TomWright, I have never been an over the top fan of the heavyweight division, but I think that there are several wrestlers who could blow the weightclass open come time for nationals

If the question was which weight class is the most competitive, then 141, 184 and possibly Hwt would be my pick(s). But in terms of interesting/intriguing matchups I have to go with 133. JO is looking incredible so there is always the question--can anyone touch him? Usually there isn't. That may be the case this year too. But--we have Stieber who we really don't know how high he can rise this year, and Ramos as well who is looking awfully tough and has never wrestled JO (in college at least). 141 and 184 will be very interesting to see who ends up on top, but in most cases they will be rematches and not totally unknowns. Anyway, that's just MHO.

I think the difference occurs because some people are talking about NCAA's, and some (you) are talking just about matches in general.

Were the schedules to set up where Oliver wouldn't wrestle Ramos or Stieber until NCAA's I might agree with 133, but he's going to wrestle Ramos here in a couple of weeks and then he'll see Stieber at the Stillwater Regional for National Duals.

Well, the object was just to stimulate discussion on interest in different weight classes and so whether one is focusing on NCAA tourney or the season in general--all discussion fits the topic. Interesting that 125, 149, 157, 174 haven't been mentioned yet. As a PSU fan I have a lot of interest in seeing a Ruth-Amu rematch which hopefully will occur in the NCAA finals. I suspect Iowa/Cornell fans are interested in a Dake/St John match-up. But neither 157 or 174 are very deep as a weight class. And 149 looks to be especially weak this year.

Less interest in seeing an AMU/Ruth finals rematch than in seeing Taylor/Frank "I Choose Down" lay waste to the rest of the class?

VAIS and goferphan--I noticed your first choices were weights were your team had a solid wrestler. I would like to note that my weight class of most interest (133) is the weight where PSU is weakest. Just thought you'd like me to point that out in case you missed it.

I am of the opinion Ruth will beat Much and apart from that match there is little about 74 that remotely interests me. Frank isn't laying waste to anything. He will have his hands more than full. Parks, Mason and Ness all have a shot IMO. I love watching DT lay waste to anyone so that interests me.
