    Default Iowa and Illinois

Just got back from the dual. A few great matches tonight. Illinois came out to wrestle and score points. Iowa did not with the exceptions of Ramos and Lofthouse.

Delgado took a shot off the whistle and set the tone for the match. He never let McDonough get into his game. Matt didn't come out to score points tonight. Never got his hooks in on Jesse's legs to grind out a takedown. Didn't look like himself. Delgado is good.

Ramos put on a takedown clinic. He was able to score pretty easily. Can't wait to see what he can do against Oliver.

I missed the first part of Marions match because I have a small bladder but he wrestled a pretty solid match from what I saw.

Terrazas is good but I don't think he's great. Mark Ballweg cannot be Iowa's best option at 149. He's a good 141lber but not 149. Didnt take any shots that I recall. At this point I'm running out of hope that we will ever see Carew wrestle.

I think Dooley took five shots before St. John got a takedown and iirc it was a counter. Not impressed with his offense at all tonight. He's gonna have to wrestle a hell of a lot better if he's gonna beat Dake.

I liked what I saw from Evans except his lack of offense from neutral. When he was on top he was the hammer everyone says he is. Just needed a little more time to get near fall points. Rides hard though.

I thought Lofthouse wrestled hard tonight. He showed good offense and had great counters to Blantons shots. Had much more wind than Jordan. Hope he can keep it up the whole year.

Fahlers shot two great super ducks. He is better than average from his feet but gets turned like a burger when underneath. He had good action and is fun to watch. Had a chance to win the match. Needed a takedown in the third to tie it but gave one up and the got turned a couple of times.

Lira wrestles hard too but just doesnt have the skills to be a great wrestler at this level.

Telford got in on more than a few shots but was unable to finish any of them. He rides good though. His match was a lot like Evans' in that he just needed the clock to be on his side once he got the legs in.

All in all, Iowa looked pretty bad tonight. Not much offense aside from a couple of wrestlers. Illinois was offensive and ready to go. I wish we would have wrestled like they did. If we would have it would have been a slaughter.

First off I will say I was annoyed with Poolman and crew last night. There must have been 30+ cautions ugh. The new stalling rules and the way they are being applied really are still to subjective.

125 McD looked tired basically from the 2nd period on Dellgado did a good job of getting to McD legs.

133 Ramos Did a great job of cutting off to the doulbe and putting Futrell on his butt. Kept the pressure on the whole match wven was attempting another double leg as time expired.

141 Marion very nice job on his feet and controled the match. He should have beat this guy by more was a little lazy setting up his offense in the first.

149 Mark Ballweg is not a 149'er like herkey said no offensive shots was content to roll around and counter.

157 DSJ let the Illini kid in on his legs way too much even though he was able to crush the shots the illini kid really slowed down the match by getting to a leg an hanging there until a stalemate was called.St. john needs to do a better job setting up his offense.

165 Evans great on top but, really need to develop a go to shot.

174 Lofthouse looked improved from his feet and from the bottom. Good job of creating action and scoring on Blanton. Blanton seems out of sorts this year,

184 Fahler this was a pretty exciting match. lots of action in Fahler works on his bottom wrestling he should be a decent option at 184. Loved the super ducks and he never quit in the match. He has to stay off his back

197 Lira what Herkey said...he also needs to improve his conditioning seems to fade late in matches

Hwt Telford see Mike Evans good on top needs that got to move.

I will say Illinios was far more aggressive in most of the matches they were taking shot off the whistle. I have to think that was the plan coming in. I will take the win but, it was ugly.

Ballwegs problem isn't his size. I hate to sound like mudflap but he don't move his feet!!

How would you explain the success that he had at 141 compared to the lack of success at 149? He may not move his feet very fast but at 41 he is good enough to overcome his slow feet. At 149 he is not.

His best win at 141 was Chris Drouin I believe, who peaked 3 years ago. He wasn't that great, he was serviceable, but not special.

It's not about wins and losses, completely. He was able to wrestle his style against smaller guys and have success with it, while he cannot at 149.

He also beat Kindig 8-3 which is a better win than Drouin.

Kindig>Drouin, yes. There was a month or two that Drouin was wrestling with the best in the country. That was a fast month. He never attained that success again.
