Thread: Delgado WBD Mcdonough!

Keith Poolman is a solid ref. He's been doing it for a long time and will probably end up in the Dan Gable HOF someday. He's called stalling in that fashion for as long as I can remember. He used to do some high school matches and would call it like that even back then. You don't build up credit with him for taking the last seven shots. If' youre stalling at that moment he's gonna call you for it. Mike Allen used to call stalling like that too and I think everyone agrees that he was one of the best.

I'm giving him a pass on the cautions. IIRC they changed the rule this year so that the ref isnt blowing the whistle so quickly. Correct me if I am wrong about that.

I have no problem with Poolman's reffing at all except for the last stall call which seems odd as McD's back is exposed and it looks like Delgado is moving up.

Is this the Poolman who AA'd in the 70's for some iowa school?

Yeah, he was a three time all american with UNI when they were a div II school. He placed 4th twice and was a champ when he was a senior.

You'll see very clearly Delgado gets hit with the stall call while McD rides him.

Stall call was fair. Delgado was holding on to the legs, not making a move up the body. that said, he outwrestled McDonough and earned the win.

Yes, I think it does matter if you saw the match. I agree, a normal McD should not (does not) lose that match. From the start McD wasn't right. It almost reminds me of Joey Slaton when he got beat by the Iowa State kid a few years ago. It was not that bad of course, but McD didn't (almost couldn't) wrestle like McD usually does. I still think he was sick or maybe the weight is becoming an issue. I don't mean to take away from the Ill. kids' win. He took it to McD the whole match and won. But I will bet money,if they meet at the midlands, McD wins and wins handley. (sp?)

All and any losses are disappointing when you win a Nat.title as a freshman silly.

I think McD's last problem is "discipline." Brands obviously gave no indication what was up, but typically he'll call guys out if they're not doing the right things. He more less indicated McD didn't match Delgado's intensity and "answer the call"

I disagree - I think Futrell is quicker but Ramos is the better all-around wrestler.
