I had one Division I assistant tell me over last weekend (before the ODU dual) that they didn't think Iowa State will win a dual meet all year. While I disagree with his assessment (in part because Iowa State has had to wrestle with patchwork lineups due to short-term injuries, and in part because Northern Iowa is in a very parallel predicament to Iowa State talentwise, in that UNI's hold on the #2 spot in the WWC might be in jeopardy this year), he did correctly recognize that the Cyclones' dual meet schedule from that point forward is absolutely brutal, and lacking in cupcakes.

Iowa State probably has two chances left to get a dual meet win: January 3rd in Tempe, and February 3rd in Cedar Falls.
UNI will finish better this year than they did last year (46th), and in the WWC, no way do they finish lower than 2nd. In fact, I'll even go on record today as saying they win the WWC this year; the conference tournament, not the dual team title.

The top three teams in the WWC have two really tough wrestlers that will, by and large, carry most of the team points. It all comes down to the remaining eight, which, I think, UNI has an edge on.
    UNI Panthers...Because it's just right.

UNI won't be the highest placing WWC team at NCAA's imo.

I think Wyoming will have that distinction.

It is only rumor that he is heading to Ames, but with all the time he has spent there this year I think theres a good chance. It would be nice to add Caldwell and McCauley to the lineup next season.
Thanks for the info. Sounds like Caldwell is holding his cards pretty close to his chest and keeping his options open.

Yes. So what? Never said they wouldn't win the WWC.

I'm saying they're not going to be the best team when you are supposed to be.

One would have to assume, considering Wyoming hast wo returning AAs, one being a three time returning AA, and UNI has none.

So, then, how is UNI supposed to be the best team of all WWC schools at nationals?

Score more points than all the other WWC teams?

Finch looked great, worked for back points hard for 2 periods. 1st home dual and against a highly rated kid. I think he will settle in and the conditioning won't be a problem.
Sorenson looked like I expect him to, relentless.
Spangler looked very good the 1st 2 periods, I think as he gets healthy and more mat time, everything will start to click for him.
The Russian, G was the one I was most impressed with all night and I think he challenges for the National title, Gibson couldn't show us much last night, I credit G.
Beard will tighten the gap with Perry. He went hard for all 7 minutes and wasn't happy getting beat.
Shafer was out sized at 197 and needs to quit giving up points at the end of periods and matches.
All in all, we need Weatherman, Moreno, Gadsen and Mayfield back and healthy.

I think we can split wins (5 and 5) with alot of teams, but will give up to many bonus points at a couple weights that will prevent dual wins.

Also Parks, White and Bailey did not impress me much. They are not very offensive and will keep scores close and all the chance of upsets.
