Thread: The New Team Top 5 Rankings (According to Me)

Default The New Team Top 5 Rankings (According to Me)

    1. Iowa
    2. Cornell
    3. Minnesota
    4. Penn State
    5. Oklahoma State

Can't say I agree with Iowa being #1 as they haven't wrestled anyone but if you just go off of their individuals rankings to date, I see the logic. I think that's a nasty Top 5 that will come down to injuries and maturation speed of freshman.

I am not sure I have seen the Team Race look so close this early in the season for a LONG time.

    The #5 ranking hurts

Only until they put some matches on film, with the way this team race is shaking out, #5 is right there with #1. I could not with any confidence lay down money with the Gophers against any of these teams (except maybe Penn State . I think Storley makes that a different match and admit that Penn State has options on their bench that could change a point here or there but that was a 9 point win in THEIR house. Taylor really did have 6 so I admit too it was really 23-15. You can tell that with Cael and Taylor at some point this year if Taylor comes running off the mat with his hands in the air after a 3:00 tech-fall when Cael tells him to work for the pin there's going to be a shouting match at some point.

If I was to compare "A" Games I believe that Oklahoma State's "A" game would beat anybody elses. But it remains to be seen whether the team will wrestle to their full potential which they have not done the past couple years. I think if Minnesota was to wrestle Cornell again they'd win, not having Storley and of course the two upsets caused the loss. Wow I proofread before I posted this and I must say it was pretty bad.

gofer--I can't argue with your picks based on the few early matches we have so far. Iowa and Ok St are still unknown apart from pre-season rankings. We've seen this past weekend, that those don't always hold up! But all the teams have a lot of young guys (freshmen) and things can and probably will change as the season moves on. After a couple of months with these young guys getting a lot of matches under their belts, things could reshuffle quite a bit. Congrats to Minnesota--a great win for them yesterday!

I wouldn't argue with any of those rankings right now. Are you ranking on dual meet performance, tournament points, or just ranking?

I was very impressed with Cornell (but also less than thrilled with Minnesota and how they looked dead at some weights). With 3 potential NCAA champs in Dake, Bosak and Simaz they could definitely make a good run at it.

Have we heard what happened to Simaz?

Good point, dual team only. I don't get in to all of the tournament team rankings, too complicated for this old bird. Plus nothing ever seems to go at NCAA's like it should, that's the beauty of it. Its scary to me to look at Okie State as 5th? Are you kidding me? Its a very talented team but you can't necessarily put them above any of the rest.
