Beavers Open The 2011-12 Home Campaign> Oregon State opens its 2011-12 home slate this weekend when the Beavers take on Simon Fraser Friday night at 7 p.m. and Boise State Sunday at 1 p.m. Each is at Gill Coliseum.

Media> Live stats will be provided through trackwrestling.com and a link to each meet is available on osubeavers.com. Also, follow wrestling on Twitter.com/OSU_Wrestling for updates as each meet progresses.

The Rankings> Oregon State?s projected lineup has five wrestlers ranked in at least one major ranking system, including Ty Vinson, who is No. 19 at 174 pounds according to The Open Mat. Mike Mangrum is the highest-rated of Oregon State?s wrestlers at No. 5.

New To The Lineup> Oregon State has six wrestlers in the projected lineup who did not wrestle on a regular basis for the team last season. Pat Rollins (125), James Roberts (133) and Taylor Meeks (197) are all redshirt freshmen who did compete for the Beavers last season.

Welcome Back RJ> All RJ Pena did last weekend at the Best of the West Tournament was go 6-0 with six pins to claim first at 157 pounds. That?s not bad considering he redshirted the entire 2010-11 campaign after competing at 149 pounds as a true freshman. He is now 19-4 between the two weights in bouts decided by pins. He is tied for 32nd in team history in pins.

Then There?s Clayton Jack> Clayton Jack picked up four pins to win the heavyweight class in Ashland, Ore., and now stands at 31-4 all-time in falls. In getting to 31 such wins, he jumps to No. 10 in OSU career history after entering the year 14th.

Team Rankings> The Beavers held steady in the team rankings since competing at the Best of the West Tournament. OSU is still 18th in the coaches poll and 11th accordng to d1collegewrestling.net, which is the poll that has the team ranked the highest. OSU jumped one spot in Intermat?s rankings to No. 21.

    Snackem's projected SFU lineup
    Skylor Davis 125lbs
    125 Jarrett Lum
    133 Dillon Hume
    149 Alex Stemer
    157 Niko Hughes
    165 Brock Lamb
    174 Arminder Virk
    184 Clete Hanson
    197 Pardeep Rehki
    HWT Gurjot Kooner
I really don't know a lot about a lot of these guys but here's my guess on how this dual will play out.
125 Pat Rollins OSU WBM 4-0 OSU
133 James Roberts OSU WBD 7-0 OSU (notice no Drucker or Lara in the lineup)
141 Mike Mangrum OSU WBF 13-0 OSU
149 Scott Sakaguchi OSU WBM 17-0 OSU
157 RJ Pena OSU WBD 20-0 OSU
165 Brock Lamb SFU WBD 20-3 OSU
174 Ty Vinson OSU wbd 23-3 OSU
184 Cleet Hanson SFU WBM 23-7 OSU
197 Taylor Meeks OSU WBD 26-7 OSU
285 Clayton Jack OSU WBF 32-7 OSU
I had to fight the urge to not give the beavers more bonus points as I think that Pena, and Meeks could each score bonus as well.

    Snackem's projected BSU lineup
    Romero, Isaac 125
    Owen, Brian 133
    Strait, Josh 141
    Hernandez, Steven 149
    Ivanov, George 157
    Cuthbertson, Michael 165
    Bacon, Scott 174
    Swartz, Jake 184
    Chriswell, Brent 197
    Felix, J.T. 285

I'm guessing at a couple of weights. Here's my guess for a team score.
125 Romero BSU in a tossup 3-0 BSU
133 Roberst OSU in another tossup 3-3 tie
141 Mangrum OSU WBD 6-3 OSU
149 Sakaguchi OSU WBD, I'm not exactly sure who BSU will throw out there but I think that Sakaguchi comes away with the win either way.
157 Pena OSU WBD 12-4 OSU
174 Bacon BSU WBM 12-8 OSU
    184 Swartz WBD 12-11 OSU
197 Chriswell BSU WBD 12-14 BSU
285 Clayton Jack WBD 15-14 OSU

I really think that this dual will come down to bonus points and the toss up matches. Can Mangrum, Sakaguchi, Pena, or Jack put up bonus points? Can Meeks hold it to just a decision? I don't know a lot about the two light weights for OSU so it should be really exciting to see the duals this weekend. I may come back on and change my picks after watching the dual on Friday vs SFU.

So no Lara or Drucker this year?

No they're both there. Lara was at 133 for the Best of the West last weekend, Drucker was not there however the OSU wrestling twitter page said that he's not hurt he's just not in the lineup

    "OSU_Wrestling Beaver Wrestling
Just not in lineup. No injury RT @ScottNelson: Is Drucker hurt, or just not in the lineup?"

Hey Snack, it looks like we should be able to stream the OSU/BSU dual live though OSU all-access for free? Is this the case?

Oregon State University Official Athletic Site

    That would be sweet!

My guess is that Pena pins both opponents.

Also, Chriswell won't be wrestling until 2nd semester will he?

Yes in the past OSU all access has been free there is a chance that the SFU match will be there too, no promises though. I think Pena pins both too but it seemed a bit "homerish" of a pick so I backed off, and I'd forgotten about Chriswell, he is out until 2nd semester.

Just got back from the dual. OSU was definitely firing on all cylinders. We do have some serious holes in the linup as of now--165, 174, 184 and 125 until Lara gets down there. Rollins may be able to fill in that spot but dropping matches to people like Skylar Davis is not a good thing. I was really amazed to see how BIG Tuck (184) was. Pena got another fall, he's now 7 for 7 with 7 falls. Meeks looked really good too, he just seem like someone had stole his girlfriend, pissed in his cheerios and ran over his dog. He was out to hurt his opponent and in the process stuck him early in the first.

I was impressed with the way the beavers attacked the whole time, constantly moving forward and constantly looking for takedowns and back points--which they got a lot of.

I got to chat with a former NCAA champ (Roger Weigel) and I'm going to give him a ride down to Sunday's dual meet and also probably a ride to the Pac 12's later this year. Really nice guy.

I know that OSU should easily roll over SFU so the score was no surprise, it was good to see nearly everyone score bonus points though and it was good to see that the two losses we had both those guys never gave up and didn't give up bonus points either.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do against BSU, that should be a good test.
