Tony--I'm not sure I'm understanding your question correctly. But, yes, you can get a take-down in the 1st period, put the guy on his back and pin him without ever scoring "2 points" for a near fall. But, if the pin had not been called, he would have gotten 2 or 3 points depending on how long he held him there.
