CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State wrestling team will officially open its 2011-12 season Nov. 12 and 13 when the Beavers participate in the Best of the West Tournament on the campus of Southern Oregon.

With the start of the season less than two weeks away, let's take a look at the team's upper weight classes: 165, 174, 184, 197 and the heavyweight class.

Unlike the lower weights, the Beavers have only one NCAA Championships returner in the upper weight classes. That is Clayton Jack, who has lettered three years for Oregon State and made three visits to the NCAA Championships.

The coaching staff has stated that many of the upper weight class starters have yet to be decided and will depend upon how individuals do at Southern Oregon.

We caught up with assistant coach Troy Steiner to assess the team at its upper weight classes. Check the video below to learn more.

So it looks like the OSU lineup will be
    125 Rollins
133 Lara/Drucker or Drucker/Lara (at least for a while maybe the whole season)
    141 Mangrum/Drucker
    149 Sakaguchi
    157 Pena
    165 Weishoff/Latham
    174 Vinson
    184 Tuck/Engdahl/Sherman
    197 Meeks/Mondragon
    285 Jack

    Some things to note:
    • Tuck who is listed at 157/165 is the lead guy at 184.
    • Not only did Tuck bump up 2-3 weights but he is also now the front runner at the new weight. Guy must have been hitting the weights hard over the summer.
    • Weishoff dropping to 65 from 74
Lara up to 33 to fight it out with Drucker. I wonder if Drucker will bump back to 141 to fight it out with Mangrum or if he'll stay at 33? I wouldn't be surprised if those three weights change a lot between now and the scuffle.
    • Meeks definitely up at 97 instead of 84, leads me to wonder if maybe they are going to leave him there next year too and bring Hanke back at 285?
    • If some of these younger and unproven guys can perform then Oregon State is starting to build some depth.

I really don't think that Oregon State will have a lineup "set" until after the Scuffle. I think there's going to be a lot of battles in the room this year and that we'll see OSU sending their starters to some of the traditionally "JV" tournaments to see how guys do against common opponents and how they place against each other.

Don't they usually wrestle a lot of different guys in Best of the West and similar events ? I seem to remeber when I had Mangrum on my fantasy team as a freshman (before he RS'd) he split time with the other 141 .
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.
