Looking at it strictly from the standpoint of how my career ends, I'll take Bubba's any day!

Who wouldn't, when what sits atop one's fridge is something like this?!

If the question was "who was more talented" or "who do I like better" there is no question that the answer is DC.

However if I had to swap lives with one of these two guys I find it hard to even formulate an argument for DC. Here are a few reasons why I feel like Bubba is an obviously superior choice

    1) Finishing Strong

As several people have already pointed out, Bubba went out on top. There simply is no comparision to winning your senior year as an underdog, or defaulting out because of an injury as a returning champ. If you want to go with overall career results, Dustin Schlatter is right there in the mix with these two, but do any of us think he had an awesome career? No, because it followed a strictly downward trajectory.

    2) Injury problems

I know Jenkins had some injuries as well, but he seems to have recovered from them just fine. Caldwell first got hurt over two years ago and has yet to show that he can compete at the same level that he did before. Even worse, he's re-injured the same part of his body multiple times. Its pretty common knowledge that the more frequently something gets injured, the bigger problem its going to be in the long run. It has to be an awful feeling being a physically fit 22 year old and not knowing if your shoulder is going to hold out when you start doing athletic activities

    3) Future Prospects

I have no idea what DC is up to, but I know that Jenkins signed an MMA contract and is probably going to do quite well for himself financially. He's got some undeniable talent that will translate well to MMA, and he certainly has the type of personality that could make him a star (and/or a villian). I question if he has the mental fortitude to be a true champion in MMA, but I have no doubt he'll have a sucuessful career.

    5) Revenge Factor/Storyline

As far as quality of the wins go, I would argue that Caldwell dominating a returning champion Metcalf is much bigger of an upset and certainly more impressive then Bubbas win over Taylor. Yes Bubba was an underdog, but he'd beaten Taylor before, Taylor was in his first year of varsity competition, and we all knew Bubba had the ability to pull off big moves and put up a big win, much like he did against Adam Hall at the allstar. Brent Metcalf on the other hand, was considered absolutely unbeatable, and had already techfalled Caldwell earlier in the year.

All that being said however, I don't think the storyline of Caldwell upseting Metcalf can hold a candle to Jenkins sticking Bubba Taylor on the big stage. Here is a guy who got booted off a team for not meshing the coach, and one of the motivations for the move was undoubtedly because David Taylor was there to fill in his shoes. Bubba goes on to not only win a national title, but pin Cael's golden boy in the first period. As much as that still hurts me on the inside, I have to admit that it would be difficult to script a better ending than that.

This can't be. I thought it was because he had tattoo's and a pit bull.

To be fair to Cael it probably didn't help his decision that Bubba made himself academically ineligible.

Hmmm, more far apart than I thought. I thought the superiority of Caldwell's championship win would get him a few more votes, though I do think Bubba is the slightly better choice.

Bubba's total "quit" against Metcalf in the 2009 Big Ten tournament negates anything else he did for me. He just gave up and let himself be pinned. If you're going to do that, just forfeit the match.

If they would have let him take a redshirt year he wouldnt have stooped that low. Pretty ingenious way of forcing a redshirt year if you ask me. Especially if you don't really have a loyalty to the school you wrestle for, as Bubba obviously didnt.

Also, have you seen the girls that go to ASU?

I've already gone on record as saying that I think Bubba's career was more desirable in light of the way it finished; but that I think overall Caldwell was the better wrestler.

One more thing to point out. Bubba caught Taylor in a fall. He pulled the move and deserved it, but we don't know how the match would have turned out if he didn't get the distance. Caldwell beat Metcalf over a full 7 minutes and (sorry Iowa fans) but he dominated Metcalf for the whole match. Bubba didn't dominate Taylor that way.
