It would never pass basketball down there though.
The Gators had a home & home series with Penn State in the late 70s & even beat PSU once at the end of Koll's era.

Wow--I was on the PSU team in the early 70's and don't know how I missed knowing about the Gators. I guess I must have been pretty out of touch then. The same goes for GA and Miss St I guess. Thanks for the info.

I went & double checked my memory & I was wrong about Georgia it was Georgia Tech instead. There was no Mississippi State team either. Also East Carolina (no idea what conference) had a team & so did Clemson (ACC). Also Texas in the SWC (Big 12), Kansas & K-State used in the Big 8 (12). Also Arizona, Cal, Oregon, UCLA, Washington & Washington State in the Pac-8 (12) used to as well.

I think Clemson (of the SE schools) was the last one to drop it--right after Sammy Henson graduated I believe. U of Florida was never on my radar screen in wrestling. I'm amazed that Hanrahan got beat in 1979. That must have been his freshman year. Rich Kepler was a former S College wrestler! Interesting seeing those results years later. Those were in the "lean years" of PSU wrestling right after Rich Lorenzo took over for Bill Koll. Rich had a lot of success later, but the teams struggled at first. I think I should be writing this on the PSU thread--I forgot which thread I was on! Oh yeah--possibility of Missouri having to drop wrestling! I sure hope not.

You'll get a kick out this site then.

It's fairly new addition to wrestling stats. Yukiyama has been toiling away.

Can you get the same stats for other schools if you replace "lehigh" for example for "pennstate" in the link?

I realized the easiest way to find that out was to try it, so I did. It worked. I would imagine that almost all of the Div 1 schools stats are in this. That's a great website!

    Tom-
If you go to that site-at the top is a list of colleges and click on that and it takes you to 5-6 other schools who use the server .
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.
