Default The 5th best Wrestling State

Whenever my friends and I discuss the best states for wrestling we always start off with the big 2, Pennsylvania and Ohio. After that we usually agree on New Jersey then New York. But when it comes to deciding the 5th best state we can never come to an agreement. You hear convincing arguments for California, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. You also hear not quite as convincing arguments for Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, and Georgia. One time I even heard a guy say Kentucky is close to getting 5th, needless to say he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. What state do all of you think is 5th? I always just say it changes year by year.

It depends on your criteria. If your just judging on mass quantities, Iowa is below those other much bigger states. If you judge it in relation to total state population Iowa is number one in terms of aa's at the collegiate level.

NY seems down to me as of late but it could just be that as I get older, the younger and more kid-like they all seem. But in years past, def. top 5 year in and year out, with results at the high levels to back it up.

Not to get nit-picky Falcon, but you've got the big two in the wrong order. It's Ohio........then Pennsylvania. As far as the fifth goes, I think it varies from year to year, but the good schools always produce. I guess if made to vote for one, I would say Iowa.

Haha well 3 of my friends are PA guys, 1 is a Florida guy, and then 2 Michigan guys. Ohio is not represented in our arguments.

I do agree New York has been down the past couple years, but none of the 2nd tier states have really been consistent enough in my opinion to knock them off.

Edit to add WI and MO

    1 PA
    2 OH
    3 NJ
4-6 (no order) IL, CA, NY
    7 IA
8-10 (no order) MI, MN, OK
11-14 (no order) WI, KA, VA, FL
15-19 (no order) MO, UT, OR, NB, IN
18-25 (no order) TX, GA, NC, CO, SD, WA

Best of rest--AZ, MD, WV, WY

To answer the question, one of three teams is fifth best; I keep changing my mind on which to choose.
