Is the MSU coaching staff moving him up to make sure they maintain their iron grip on the B10 basement?

Re: First Set of Rankings-WrestlingReport
Not to make this about Long, but I am somewhat impressed that they revised their rankings quickly enough to drop Long and add in Pearsall. I'm still hoping to see Martellotti back at 125 (and at a 2.6+gpa). I think he is capable of scoring more than the zero points PSU is currently predicted at that weight and making it interesting with the top two.

I'm not disputing that Byers could get 2nd, but I don't think he should be ranked there. Especially over a 2xAA.
If it's just because Byers beat Kilgore then theoretically shouldn't Micah Burak be way up there as well? It would seem that Byers sitting out the last bit of the year helped his ranking for this year.

Re: First Set of Rankings-WrestlingReport
If Martellotti becomes academically eligible then isn't he much more likely to be the guy at 133? PSU fans like KR seem pretty certain that Megaludis will be the starter at 125.

With a guy likely to make the finals at 133 already, I would have expected to see Martellotti stay down. He looked really good to me at that weight last fall. Now that 133 has opened up, that (Meg 125 / Mart 133) sounds to me like the combination that scores the most points (sorry Pearsall).
My personal preference is that all incoming freshmen get to redshirt, so I would like to see Megaludis and McIntosh do that. There has been some discussion about the benefits of getting a year or two of actual competition experience and then taking a RS, and I think there is merit there too. If that is the case, I would probably like to see Meg wrestle this year and have McIntosh take the RS right away and fill into 197. Meg looks ready for the weight.
Either way, if he is eligible (and I am rooting for him), I think Martellotti fills one of those spots and outscores the current prediction.

Re: First Set of Rankings-WrestlingReport
Has Martelloti changed his stance on book learnin'?
I think he's pretty good as well. Does Pearsall go in if Martellotti is no go?
Meg is ready from a defensive and physical perspective, but I think getting TD's and perhaps bottom will be an area of concern initially.

Re: First Set of Rankings-WrestlingReport
Everything I am hearing is that Martellotti had a good summer and is headed the right direction. He was on campus this summer, I haven't heard how the 2nd summer session went.
Pearsall seems the most likely other candidate at 133. There are others, but he has the most experience by far.

I don't know much about Megaludis, but from what I've heard he has a serious motor. If he's going to take advantage of that in college then he has to open up like Sponseller and Metcalf. At the very least against lesser wrestlers until his TD's improve.
