Finished the whole thing a few hours ago...Super cool to see how his opinions on the various guys he interacts with (particularly the Brands) evolve over the course of the four years.

Loved the anecdote where Lewboo told him that when they were talking to girls at bars that he (Tarpley) should wait until he (Lewboo) got up and left the table to tell the girls that he was an Olympic champion.

This is awesome. Wasted a whole bunch of time today at work reading this.

Iowa stories seem to be the best for some reason. And, what a bunch of kooks. I mean, what coach would take a 2 hour nap in one of his wrestler's bed to get into his head?

This is one of my favorite entries. He's completely frustrated at this point and doesnt know what he wants with his life and it all boils over because he can't take down Zaputil. Not many people could though.

I'm in a bad mood. I'd be in a better mood if I'd weighed out at 123 tonight and had beaten Zaputil handily, and a few other things. I weighed out at 129.3, Zaputil beat me handily, Jenny and I are arguing, I'm sick of my roommate Mike, I'm sick of living in this pit of an apartment, I'm sick of this stupid f---ing town, I'm sick of graduate history classes, I'm sick of the wrestlers, I'm sick of wrestling.

Jenny wants a normal life. I want an extraordinary life. I don't even know what that means. I don't know what I want.

    I know what I don't want:

I don't want to live in suburban Cleveland and have a mustache and sell stereos at Best Buy. I don't want my house cluttered with garage sale bric-a-brac, with ceramic figurines and antique dolls and those stupid arts-and-crafts cloth rabbits with the ears that don't stand up.

I don't want refrigerator magnets shaped like fruit, and I don't want a kitchen memo board that says "Bless This Mess," or a hot plate that says "May the Road Rise to Meet You" (whatever the f--- that means). I don't ever want to get so comfortable or complacent that I have to sigh and say, "This is it--the best I can do now is keep the lawn mowed."

    I don't want a normal life.

    Why couldn't I score a f---ing takedown on Zaputil?

Is Steve Martin the coach for Old Dominion and Granby School of Wrestling camps or is this a different one? The comments on the Granby youtube videos seem to match up with Tarpley's haha,

I read some of it- pretty awesome!

I noticed that Tarpley tends to get injured in a lot of the tournaments he competes in. I wonder if this is something unique to Tarpley, or if it is a side effect of the balls-to-the-wall training they go through at Iowa.

It may have something to do with the amount of weight he was cutting. Also, some peoples bodies are just more fragile than others and cannot handle the brutality of the sport as well as others.
