The conference is the smallest unit of competition for a school. Shouldn't basement dwellers be on the hot seat? If you're the worst team in your conference (with the exception of the Big 12, the administration probably doesn't have much to lose by firing you.

MSU won the NCAA team title in 1967. B4 PSU the last team whose entire academic property lay on land ENTIRELY east of the Mississippi to win it. In the early 70s MSU was a feared team with the Milkovich brothers. So the tradition is there. Minkel is a Michigan guy but from CENTRAL Michigan. Maybe they need to get a Sparty guy or jump out of the box to restore them.

kr-that one gets a "partly true, partly false" from mythbusters. Minnesota, which as you know has won three national titles in this century, actually straddles the Mississippi River, with the Sports Pavilion actually East of the Mississippi.

Your point remains valid, however. Anybody who would call Michigan State's performances acceptable from the past decade would have a hard time being defended at a sanity hearing.

There is no argument in my mind that Minkel needs to go. Michigan State AD Mark Hollis needs to can him not one day later than five years ago (OK, so Ron Mason was the AD at the time...but since January of 2008, he should have made that move at some point). Much as I like him, I suspect that Indiana head coach Duane Goldman's days would be numbered if AD Fred Glass cared as well.
    SHP,
As you know DG is thoroughly entrenched at IU.Glass would be slitting his own throat monatarily wise if he were to sack DG as his father makes huge donations to IU wrestling-besides-now that his son is at IU we will see at least 4-5 more years of DG-
I keep looking for something to be positive about in next years team but little has changed save IU lost Young/Kinser and Alcala to graduation. Their HWT (chalphant) will not be on campus until 2nd semester.
I try to be a loyal fan but the song remains the same..

My dad and I talked about IU today, it sucks to see them do bad cause that was the team I watched wrestle when I was little. The first college match I ever saw was IU against... I think Michigan. I don't know how many guys they will be even able to send to NCAA's.

Powless may be the only one.I'd like to say more guys could make it but no one else has Big 10 experience or rather Big 10 victories. Hopefully Konz , Niemann , Taylor make some noise.

I thought Leblanc would be tough too. We'll see. He's been lackluster so far. He's talented but how much better will he get? Especially with Young and Kinser not there to "push" him.

LeBlanc was 25-2 his redshirt year but was injured early in the season and then kinda shot his wad in a multi overtime loss at the scuffle. I am too lazy to look it up but i don't think he won a big 10 match ? LeBlanc is very similar to PSU's former 165-Kemmerer - as he will NOT light up the scoreboard.
I kind of think everyone at IU is wondering what to expect this season.
