Not upset. Really just pointing out that most people on the board go staid on predictions & it usually falls within the accepted viewpoint of the moment UNTIL an athlete breaks out. Then what nobody else saw before suddenly becomes the "norm".

And if someone comes out with something that is out of the norm, some folks like to rip on it.

I was hardly trying to be critical of Vais but actually trying to get people to think outside the box & perhaps pick a "breakout" pick or "upset" pick or "unexpected" pick thats all.

If Dake wins his third but has two losses he will NOT get the hodge. Personally I don't think that Dake wins it this year. I have no idea who beats him or why I think that, I just think he takes a loss at NCAAs this year and finishes 1,1,2/3,1.

I dont make fun of you(until now) when you say Justin Lister could have placed 3rd last year a week before NCAA's, so don't get on me for not putting you faves into hodge trophy contention.
I wasn't getting on you really. Of course you are entitled to your own opinions. Just pointing out that sometimes things happen that we don't see. And while I was wrong about Lister then were more then a few things I was right about that others weren't.

So I will just say that I think before the end of the up coming season Ed Ruth will "unexpectedly" be in the mix & people will be talking about that he is up for the award....

If nothing else changes from last year, Oliver has to be the favorite at this point. If DT would have stayed at 157 I might have given him the edge save for Dake. I can see McD pulling it out as well as there is no one really to stop him at that weight.

Also last year when I did a statistical breakdown on the Hodge & picked JB based upon what I saw, I was surprised at how Russell got little respect. His competition was so clearly above everyone else. All the talk of how Marion wuz robbed might put a stain that for some but you cannot count the guy out.

Btw, how many people had Ness 2 years ago on the pre-season Hodge pick?

Last year Oliver out bonused McD and was pretty close to Taylor with more pins in 10 fewer matches. Next year unless there is a surprise on OSU's schedule, his toughest guaranteed opponent is Ramos (is Steiber going 133? They are at OSU for National Duals). Otherwise it is going to be a bunch of lambs to the slaughter. He probably won't be wrestling past the first period much.

If the Hodge criteria was a little better defined it would be easier to forecast. Ruth seems like a stretch - last year he got a three or four point lead and then just hung on. Maybe he'll become more motivated this year, but he has never seemed like a dominant, Hodge-style wrestler to me. Very, very good, but not dominant.

    Hodge doesnt work that way.

That statement along with your avatar is hilarious!

BTW, David Taylor or Logan Steiber. Either way it will come from an Ohio HS wrestler. Suck it Pennsylvania!!

Based upon the past of course not but thats what I am saying. People will see a change in him this year.
