Thread: Hodge Trophy 2012

As much as I hope DT wins it, I would put it as Oliver-Taylor-McD in that order. Two years ago it was hard to imagine Oliver opening up enough to win big all the time, but he sure showed it this year. I think Oliver gets more falls than Taylor which I gather counts more that TF's.

McD started pinning people at a pretty good pace last year, he may be the favorite...

That's why I didn't mention those. To me it's a two man race.
How many times are we SO sure of our conventional wisdom & predictions only to look back & see there were athletes & changes that we didn't see coming? $h!t changes all the time, my friend...

Ed Ruth was a RS Freshman who "wasn't consistently dominant"? So that means there were times that he was dominant? He had 2 losses all year. Made Lewnes & Henrich look bad. He won the Gorrian. Don't you think it could be possible that in the coming year that could change quite easily from "inconsistently dominant" to "the most dominant wrestler in college"? I think so...Imagine if Ed had his head in the game ALL THE TIME...hmm.

I will be very surprised if Andrew wrestles next year. If Dylan can get by English, he might have a year like his twin.

Of course he COULD, but Vais doesn't think he WILL. That's why it's called a prediction. And if Ed Ruth had his head in the game ALL THE TIME, he wouldn't be Ed Ruth. Maybe he will have a shift in mentality and focus, but you can't get upset because people aren't just taking it for granted that it will happen.

    SAYS WHO?????????

As to the actual topic I agree that right now you have to favor McDonough, Oliver, and Taylor headed into the year.

I'd consider putting McDonough and Taylor slightly above Oliver just because their weights are going to be worse., although given Oliver's year last year in a weight with basically the same guys AND Andrew Hochstrasser that may not matter too much.

These are my opinions. If you think Ed Ruth is going to win the Hodge put it out there, I don't.

It will be hard enough for Ed to win a title, much less go undefeated and keep up with Mcd's and DT's bonus point clip.

I dont make fun of you(until now) when you say Justin Lister could have placed 3rd last year a week before NCAA's, so don't get on me for not putting you faves into hodge trophy contention.

I agree that it's between McDonough and Taylor at this point with Oliver being a close third. McDonough has a pinners mentality. I think he pins more people than Taylor, but Taylor will probably TF a lot of guys.

Ed Ruth isnt even in the discussion at this point. Maybe he will be when we talk about this midseason, but at this point he's not even close. It's like me saying I think DSJ should be in the discussion. I think he will be come midseason (if at 157) but to bring him up right now is dumb.

I would personally give it to Dake if he wins it all again this year, I realize it is based on performance for the current year but it is hard to imagine him not getting it if he ends up winning it all with say a loss or two on the year. A 3 timer in 3 try's sounds pretty good to me.
