That was pretty insane to me--he could have broken his neck if he didn't hit it right. I remember watching it at the time live on TV and couldn't believe my eyes. Neither could the commentators!
I would love to see the video of this if anyone has it.

To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

For some reason, I thought that he DID break his neck on this throw, but gutted it out and won the Olympics. Could be wrong, but I remember reading it somewhere.

You could be right, but I never heard that at the time. The way you see his neck bend/collapse on impact makes you wonder! That took a lot more guts than Coleman's phenomenal move (not to disparage Colemen's amazing move in any way).

That truly was an insane throw, thanks for putting it up for all to see.

I never heard about the broken neck. I know he did not win gold that year, I think he won bronze. However, his career was fantastic. By that time time he had already won a bunch of Olympic medals in both styles and I pretty sure some were gold.

He was at the end of a long career when he tossed Taylor.

    ODH,
The story I've heard is the russian met big Chris at a pub and jumped up and hugged him and then sat back down and told the other wrestlers at his table that he could lock his hands and would be able to try the throw.
I've never heard anything about a broken neck either.
Of the 2 moves-i prefer the russians throw as I've used it before-never was athletic enough for the ''Flying Squirrel''-sounds like a move from a bad Kung fu movie--
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.
