It is interesting that Cael decided not to make a run for it. He's a very competitive guy and thrives on a challenge. I think that: a) he realized from his wrestling last year that it would take a huge effort to get back into top world class shape; 2) as much as he would like the challenge, it wasn't worth it. I suspect his family is as much or more a part of this as PSU. The summer is a slower time for PSU wrestling and I think he could have taken time off from the team. But the summer is also the time when he can focus more on the family--and that would have been taken away. No one has said that to me--but that's my read on the situation.
