The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier has a site with lots of video from last year's National Duals. All you Gopher and Tiger fans (bluestater) need to go there.
every time i watch that match of kish v askren i love how in the last takedown kish out funks the funk master...that was a great match...kudos to askren for making that happen

Speaks to how good Askren really was, that Kish was a returning finalist who had easily beaten everyone he'd wrestled all year up to that point save for Herbert, wrestling a guy bumping up, and I was still absolutely TERRIFIED that entire match.
Couple side notes, Manny put an absolute whupping on Primus, watching CP knock off Paulson was fun, and in terms of the Iowa v. Hofstra match I'd have posted the absolutely RIDICULOUS 12-11 Tsirtsis v. Griffin match. I was trying to watch two matches at once while that was going on, and I keep getting mad because I'd turn away for two seconds and one of them would have scored again.
Kish is big, strong guy. I remember Kish looking really nervous, while Asgren was just fearless, hamming it up for the crowd, and taking big risks against a much bigger, more powerful opponent than usual. I don't remember Kish out-funking Asgren, but I do remember Asgren getting caught taking another risk, while funking for more points. That was a very exciting match, and Missouri almost pulled it off. Kudos to Smith for guts, but the better team won.
Why would I want to watch this? I am still proud of Coach Smith for making that move. Winning nationals duals is sometimes more about the coach, and about making the right moves so that your team can win it. I'll still take Smitty over J Rob... I've seen Smitty smile!

You can argue semantics about what happened in the end of the match I guess, but as I'm sure you remember Kish and Askren got to rolling around, and Kish was the guy who came out on top with the takedown. If you don't want to call that "out funking" I guess thats cool.
It's not just about semantics. Asgren took risks. The more powerful Kish responded like the excellent wrestler that he is, and made Asgren pay for some of those risks. I just want us to remember what actually happened. Kish would have beaten most normal guys wrestling up a weight. Excuse me, but didn't Asgren win over a really tough, larger guy?
I'm wasn't rooting for either side, but you gotta give Smith credit for making that championship dual really exciting. (And of course J Rob is a fantastic coach as well.)
All I know is that it's really fun to watch Asgren wrestle.
I can't wait for this year's National Duals. I'll be part of the sea of Gold. You'll be part of the ocean of Maroon. And Bluestater will be lonely...
Last year's final match was absolutely great wrestling. I was standing next to the mat as they sent out 165, then 174 and the thoughts that were going through my head with a match that close. Definately the kind of match you want to see in the finals every year. It was exciting, they kept the action going, and well if Minnesota did not have that strong punch at the end of the line-up well things could have turned out much differently.
I think that both coaching staffs did an excellent job... they had those guys prepared!

I was sitting by a guy who was SOOO sure both Askrens were getting pins. I wasn't sure about 97, but I knew Kish would not get stuck. I would have loved to put 50 bucks against that. Damn that guy was annoying.
Either way it was a really great match. Probably the best match I've seen, not necessarily in terms of the actual match but where both guys were studs and the dual basically hinged on its result. Hoping for something like that at duals this year (Schlatter-Metcalf anyone?)
