I was sitting by a guy who was SOOO sure both Askrens were getting pins. I wasn't sure about 97, but I knew Kish would not get stuck. I would have loved to put 50 bucks against that. Damn that guy was annoying.

Either way it was a really great match. Probably the best match I've seen, not necessarily in terms of the actual match but where both guys were studs and the dual basically hinged on its result. Hoping for something like that at duals this year (Schlatter-Metcalf anyone?)
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I'm wasn't rooting for either side, but you gotta give Smith credit for making that championship dual really exciting. (And of course J Rob is a fantastic coach as well.)
All I know is that it's really fun to watch Asgren wrestle.
I can't wait for this year's National Duals. I'll be part of the sea of Gold. You'll be part of the ocean of Maroon. And Bluestater will be lonely...
Pumpkin, Missouri will have plenty of fans, and our colors are black and gold, so I'll hardly be lonely. And

Askren is spelled with a K.

Oops, sorry Bluestater. I stand corrected. Any way you spell it, that man can wrestle!

bluestater - cut grapplefan some slack. He made a spelling error, but you're going to find him a very welcome addition to the posters on this site. He's as smart and passionate about the sport as anyone here.

we will let you keep Smith...no offense, but I'll keep J Rob as long as he is willing to have us...not just for what kind of coach he is but for the kind of community leader he is and the type of torch bearer he is for the sport of wrestling...nothing against Smith but I just don't hear of him doing much for the sport other than getting his guys out on the mat ready to wrestle...

we will see what he can do this year with a good returning group with an additional year under some of the younger guys belts...

as far as that dual was concerned, Smith did an amazing job of getting his team into position to win that dual...it was a total chess match as he watched each match unfold you could just see his brain running 100 miles per hour...the match between Primus and Rivera was the match I think where he began thinking that he had to possibly do something later on...I still wish we would have gotten a chance to see Reiter go against McCormick because if that match goes the other way then the match takes on a different dimension in the later upper weights...

either way, it was a fantastic finals match as I we were also used to seeing from the previous year with Okie State-Minnesota.

Bluestater is by no means annoying... it wasn't a simple case of misspelling it, he didn't know it...he misspelled it three or four times just in that paragraph, it justifies correcting...I know my first year on the forum I took a beating for stuff like that...made me do my homework a little more before posting.

Welcome all to the forum! I for one love getting more people on here as everyone brings something new to the conversation.

Let's not forget that if CP hadn't performed that miracle comeback against Chandler, the switch would not have happened. Chandler's loss was the deal breaker that put us in a dire situation. I really liked our odds, nonetheless, and my hats off to Minny, whose 174, 184, 197 avoided giving up bonus points. Great performance by Minny, great strategy by Mizzou, but Askrens/Pell would be the first to tell you that they failed to get it done when it counted.

Let's hope for better weather this year (not likely), I missed work on Monday- the roads were terrible Sunday night.
