Nobody will mention that because the sneaky psu coach covers it all up. I have learned a lot from the psu coach though in my own personal life. I learned that the way to the top is a very long hard road but the more people you crush when walking over makes it so much more sweet.

I'm sure Bubba was chomping at the bit to get to Ames...

Do you know that he wasn't? Really not a bad place if youre a wrestler. Chris Drouin transferred from ASU to ISU. Not sure any wrestler has ever transferred from ISU to ASU. Oh, and Bobby Douglass came from Tempe to Ames too.

Don't really see why people (namely a segment of the Iowa fanbase) make such a big deal about this.
I don't see myself in your segment, but I don't like how it went down for Bobby Douglas. I have loyal sentiments for Douglas because he's a classy unselfish human being. As far as I'm concerned it was shameful, plain and simple.

    That's because you aren't...

Its fine to feel bad for how things ended for Douglas, but I lay that more at the feet of the seemingly pretty incompetent Iowa State athletic department rather than to say that Sanderson "forced" him out. I mean its not like Cael had the power to offer himself the job.

If the admin was satisfied with the job that Bobby was doing then they could have let him go to Ohio State.

I gotta throw my two cents in and say that I honestly don't think that it was Caels fault what happened to Bobby. I think it was on the athletic department at ISU like Jensen says above. Think about any profession, literally any if you're working at McDonalds and you get lunch at Burger King on your day off and they have a sign that says they are hiring and you ask for an application, you fill it out and they tell you they will give you a managers job at Burger King, yet at McDonalds you're going to be flipping burgers for who knows how long behind the managers already there. I honestly think Cael has/had a lot of respect for Bobby and did not want to have him fired, but at the same time he also wanted a head coaching job. I do not like Cael all that much at all to be honest either, but I must say the article and some folks are making him look like a back stabber like he went in and said "Fire Bobby, make me the head coach or I'm leaving" which in a way he did but I think it went more like "Look guys there is a great job opportunity at OSU that I've been offered, but I'd really love to stay here and coach but I can't pass up a head coaching position" So then the AD freaked and forced Bobby out and hired Cael before they lost the face of their program for the last decade almost.

I also agree that they could have and should have let Cael go to OSU and let Bobby stay as long as he wanted (probably only a couple more years anyway) then when he came to them and said he was ready to retire, they could have then asked Cael to come back to ISU. In the end it was a crappy job by the athletic department at ISU (which when you think about it, it's hard to blame them for not wanting to lose their 4X undefeated NCAA Champ and Olympic Champ who is young, has a great name to recruit with and shown he knows how to win everyday.

I don't love Cael, but I don't think it's right to make it look like he was the one who made ISU fire Bobby and hire him.

I'd bet that after Bubba knew he was going to have to leave PSU he would have loved to have gone to ISU, he just got lucky that ASU wanted him, at least that's my opinion.

They did the same thing to Jim Gibbons. Pushed Jim right out the door.

Thumbs Down Re: The Truth about Cael ? By Willyman on DI

JenssenS, I freely admiit I dont know the full story or the context, but there seems to be a slight disconnect here.

I understand the business decision ISU made as well as, if true, the reasoning Sanderson had for wanting a head coaching position. However my point is wholly regarding Sanderson's absence of allegiance and support of and disloyalty toward Douglas. If he did in fact push ISU's hand he did it willfully at the expense of Douglas. That would hurt on personal level not just professionally and does to some extent go to the content of Sanderson's character.

One more disclaimer, none of us know the complete story. I'm just commenting on the short exerpt post here which may not paint an accurate picture.

An interview of Cael in the mormon church owned Deseret News of Salt Lake City, UT.

Wonder when they will do one of John Smith, Tom Brands or Dan Gable? Or even Greg Williams of Utah Valley University in Orem, UT?
