Metcalf "gave up" 21 points like Brett Favre "gave up" Michael Strahan's record-breaking sack. In other words, he let it happen. He also scored 60 points in his 2010 NCAA tournament.

Yeah, I recognize it is somewhat styles, but I prefer the Gable 1972 Olympics no points style to the trading points style.

    ahh, nuts...

"Saying that the NCAA's are a snapshot in time is irrelevant. It's where the best meet the best. Sometimes weight classes are more stacked than other times though, and the quality of opponent is not a crap argument."
All matches are snapshots in time. Its the beauty of all sports. Its very relevant.
In my post I was questioning how some had proposed we determine a weight class to be "stacked". Using the number of AA is not necessarily reliable. It assumes what happened at previous NCAA's is relevant.

"Even if I grant you the point that Caldwell beats Metcalf in 2010, we could still be having this discussion. Regardless of whether Caldwell owns Metcalf, that has no bearing on whether Metcalf is better than Dake."
Sure we could, it probably wouldn't be that interesting a discussion though.

I know this is a college wrestling board, but Brent Metcalf also won the World Team trials last year. Pretty tough tournament there. How many all Americans competed there? I think Doug Schwab wrestled and he placed 5th in the world.

Also, I don't think it's a given that Metcalf loses to Caldwell in a rematch. Jared Frayer used to beat up on Metcalf, but Metcalf beat him during last year's WTT's. Same thing could definitely happen to even a healthy Caldwell.

Metcalf already owns a dominant win over Caldwell. The 11-6 result wasn't an aberration or anything, Caldwell in 09 is right there on Metcalf's level, but the two would be trading wins with one another if they'd continued to wrestle (and Caldwell had stayed healthy.)

No, it's probably more reliable to just argue for your favorite wrestler rather than look at quality of competition. I'm with you now. For a minute there I thought you were serious.
