Thread: Has Trev Alberts outsmarted himself?

Default Has Trev Alberts outsmarted himself?

Both NCAA Division I and II rules require schools to have at least one sport per season. As you may know, his plan is to drop football and wrestling immediately, but wait until 2012-2013 to start soccer and golf. Problem is, in the case of football and soccer, it would leave him without a fall sport for the 2011-2012 academic year, which is a violation of NCAA Division I and II rules.

Further, during the exploratory year, the program would be required to follow NCAA Division I rules, meaning they'd need to sponsor at least six men's sports. For the 2011-2012 year, which is their exploratory year, they would not be doing that.

In short, could this compliance issue throw a wrench into Mr. Alberts' hopes of moving this program up, and gutting his most successful sport, as well as his own?

Being a resident of the Omaha area I can tell you there is a lot of pushback from the local community... I heard on the radio this morning that the Nebraska State Legislature was looking at getting involved... Regardless of the outcome tomorrow I feel this fight is LONG from over!

Seems like it'd be a reason to bring back football but not wrestling

thechenster: That's, actually, not the point. The point is to make it obvious that this plan that Mr. Alberts' announced was half-cocked, and could well make him look bad in front of his own Board of Regents that will be making the decision.

FYI, Mike Denney is aware of this, I spoke to him earlier today. Basically, sans football and wrestling, golf would have to compete on eight separate days, with at least five golfers on each day, and soccer would have to play eleven matches. Further, soccer would have to have the majority of those dates be during the fall, in order to count that sport as a fall sport, and I will only say to Trev Alberts, good luck getting six opponents to play soccer matches, in a sport that is so tightly compacted anyway that very few teams even use their full allowed allotment of contests to begin with, when you currently have zero scheduled, and have no coaching staff or players to speak of thus far.

This from James Reynolds twitter account
They have already changed the locks and codes on our wrestling and locker room doors. Shows just how little they think of us.
