Thread: Kyle Dake Four Timer?

    Default Kyle Dake Four Timer?

This kid is a wrestling machine. What he did to Molinaro was unreal. I see no one touching him at 149#. I know how people like to predict and fantasize a Dake vs Caldwell match, but I truly believe that Dake would have won easily. So impressed with him.

I also thought that Dake would beat Caldwell, and was disappointed that the match didn't happen. Caldwell looked unfocused in his first match, like he was phoning it in. He's got the skill to beat most guys no matter where his head is, but not Dake.

I'm not buying that, assuming Caldwell is healthy, of course. I don't think Dake is much better than Metcalf and Caldwell handled him a couple times. I think Caldwell is the better neutral wrestler. Unless he did what Molinaro did and chose down without getting out, I think Caldwell gets a couple TDs and wins it.

Caldwell was a different wrestler at this year's NCAAs than when he beat Metcalf..

Dake definitely shows up for the tournament - outscored his opponents this year something like 32-1.

No doubt Dake has a real shot at it. When his game is on he's very, very tough. But he's shown more vulnerability at times which could be due to any combination of injury recovery, weight issues, and not putting out his best in non-NCAA tourney matches. Whatever, that vulnerability could show up again in a future NCAA tourney. He might well do it, but I would have given Schlater a better shot at 4x and Metcalf a 3x champion (all he could do) than Dake and they were both upset.

Let's also recall that Metcalf pinned and majored Molinaro last year. What Dake did was comparable to Metcalf. I think a healthy Caldwell(who beat Metcalf twice,) beats Dake.

We will never know, and as a wrestling fan, that is too bad.

Styles make matches, though. And Dake and Metcalf both have different styles. And, Molinaro is a better wrestler this year than he was last year, so it's hard to compare that too. I do agree that it is a shame we will never see that match, though.

I would love to see a Metcalf vs. Caldwell SuperMatch at Midlands, though. I will be rooting for Metcalf for the third time, if it happens.

Was it just me, or did Dake look just friggin' huge during the finals? When do the finalists weigh in? He looked as big if not bigger than both 157 lb finalists. It seems apparent to me that any issues he had this year must have been weight related (not that the guys that beat him were schlubs) because he manhandled a strong, strong dude in Molinaro. Granted, the match that occurred was extremely favorable for Dake and it's mystifying why the tank chose down but it was easily the best he's looked all year and I have to think that if this Dake shows up, he gives both Metcalf and Caldwell a tough, tough match. Never saw this type of dude coming from what he was in h.s.

Dake seems to have benefited from two less than stellar weight classes the last couple of years but he has beaten whoever they have put in front of him. With Taylor possibly going up to 165 next year, you have to make Dake the favorite if he moves up to 157, and most definitely at 149 again. But like he said, he can't win four next year so we'll have to take it one year at a time.

He DID look big but he's also not very tall I don't think. I say he has a better than average shot at it because whats important is how he does when it counts and he has shown to be a dominant guy in the spotlight. Reminds me of Jake Rosholt who I still can't believe has 3 titles to this day.
