Was interesting when Steinhaus wrestled Dieckhaus of NIU in the "Haus Off" - though it became less interesting and more infuriating when the wrestler from my alma mater blew a 7-1 lead, losing 9-7

If you look at the percentage of qualifiers who made AA, the bigten looks a little better. Big year for the PAC10 compared to recent years. Nice to see it.

    Big10 - 39%
    Pac10 - 32%
    EIWA - 29%
    Big12 - 25%
    ACC - 19%
    West Regional - 17%
    MAC - 17%
    CAA - 13%
    EWL - 4%

Thanks for the interesting stats. Wow--the EWL has really fallen on hard times!

I noticed that about EWL. I hope it's nothing more than a down year, but it was odd to see only one AA (Honeycutt; Edinboro)from that conference. I wonder how much Cael, being at PSU, will effect the recruiting efforts of schools like Edinboro, Pitt, WVU and Lockhaven, who have always recruited home grown PA talent?

That's a good question, but I tend to think it won't impact the smaller schools. There are a limited number of spots at PSU, and most sub blue-chippers would rather start at Edinboro or Clarion rather than wrestle behind Megaludis (for example) for the next four years).

You could be right though, it will be interesting to see.

I agree with Flop. There's plenty of schoolboy talent in PA. If anything Cael's recruiting presence in PA may encourage more to stay in state (even if not PSU). I think this year was an aberrancy for the EWL. Pitt, for example, greatly underperformed at the NCAA's.

One other note in terms of thinking of possible interesting match-ups for next year. If Oliver moves up to 141 as many suspect--he would likely face Russell. That would be interesting. Oliver is more glamorous in his wins, but Russell is incredible in his consistency in beating tough guys. I don't know who I would pick in that.
